  1. I finished #reading Red Gold by Alan Furst, one of his excellent novels about spies in #WW2.

Wonderful atmosphere. Spare, near-poetic prose. And the lingering question of what we would do in a similar situation. A novel that transcends the genre the way le Carré did.

  4. I finished reading The World at Night by Alan Furst.

Atmospheric. Poetic. If you've ever wanted to read a subtle novel about spies in WWII that asked why people resisted the Nazis at the risk of great personal sacrifice, this is the one. It'll have you wondering about yourself.

  6. Finished reading Dark Voyage by Alan Furst about a Dutch tramp freighter that gets involved in clandestine operations during World War 2. Lighter on plot, heavier on atmosphere and events. Well researched, and such a lovely narrative style. Not particularly violent, especially given its setting. Highly recommended, as they don't seem to publish novels of this caliber anymore.

tl;dr - Amazing atmosphere in this WWII novel, but a plot that lacks connection.
