  1. Don't mistake tools as living beings and living beings as tools.

A Dog will fail the Turing Test but is as conscious and alive as we think we are, Alan never meant that to be a test of self awareness.

Yet just at the other side of the canal is a statue to someone else who was persecuted in Manchester for being different. Sometimes, my city shames me.

  4. @Gwen_Nova #Funfact: #AlanTuring worse a #GasMask during pollen season because he liked to run for sports but Antihistamines weren't a thing in the 1940s.

  5. Alan Turing — o matemático, o criptógrafo, o herói de guerra.
Gay. Ateu. Perseguido. Castrado quimicamente. Suicidado.

  6. Finally framed and hung my new illustrations. Pretty happy with the result

  7. Some good #queer media for Brits on #iPlayer. The teleplay of #BreakingTheCode, the #AlanTuring biographical play, with Derek Jacobi in the lead role.

It's a much better depiction of Turing as a person and his life than the terrible "The Imitation Game".

Me and @bright_helpings went to see the play at HOME in #Manchester last year.

  10. I'm in the process of and restyling my place, rugs, paint, etc.

I purchased a set of posters from to frame them and hang them in my man's cave where I already have others from topics of my interest or special occasions like concerts signed posters and such.

But this time I wanted to do something different; have portraits or drawings of people I consider revolutionized the world, especially around my area so I've got these:

I have no idea if this is relevant to your process, but here goes...

"The #Turing #pattern is a concept introduced by English mathematician #AlanTuring in a 1952 paper titled "The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis", which describes how patterns in #nature, such as stripes and spots, can arise naturally and autonomously from a homogeneous, uniform state. The pattern arises due to Turing instability, which in turn arises due to the interplay between differential diffusion of chemical species and chemical reaction. The instability mechanism is surprising because a pure diffusion, such as molecular diffusion, would be expected to have a stabilizing influence on the system (i.e., complete mixing)."

  14. #BreakingTheCode at #HOMEMcr was a good production. It's a poignant biography of #AlanTuring, from his childhood years with his schoolboy crush through to his death. It jumps around chronologically, mostly framed by the story of his arrest for "gross indecency" after he admitted to having a male lover while reporting a burglary. But it's pretty easy to follow the through-line.

As a #BletchleyPark nerd, I'm a little peeved that they didn't give Dilly Knox a line about how the Poles broke the Enigma before the war, and Turing's work was mostly about tackling variants, and speeding up the process to make Ultra intelligence useful to the military. But at least the play doesn't quite state that Turing invented the computer, another common misconception.

I don't think it can live up to the 1996 TV movie with #DerekJacobi, but it's far better than the Cumberbatch abombination.
