Akismet wants to force me to pay for their service because I have a link to a Ko-fi page on my site. A Ko-fi page that brought me a grand total of 5€ in several years. 🤦Dear Wordpress, this is because of shit like this that more and more people don't like you anymore.

I just got an email from Akismet (the WordPress spam plugin).
They say they reviewed my WordPress site today (which I shut down and replaced with Ghost a week ago). Apparently I'm a corporation now, and I need to pay them to keep using their plugin.
Cool story, you guys.

FFS, even the Akismet plugin just slaps in some HTML that it constructed as a string with hard-coded `style` attributes and a `<script>` tag with inline code.
It's nearly 2025. It has never been easier to write good, secure code. How are even spam/security components THIS BAD at it? 🙄

@emaechler so one of the things that I liked for a ling while was the inclusion of my blog in the WordPress Reader and allowing people to Like/Reply via WordPress.com. My blog has now been setup to integrate with #ActivityPub so I sort of now prefer that to the WordPress.com syndication/integration now. This is another reason for me to finally drop it.
Thanks for the comment spam plugin recommendation. I like that @pfefferle is also a contributor. 😄

Bah, I deleted a post right after I figured out the answer, but didn’t see someone had replied. While replying, their message disappeared (‘cause I guess replies get nukes when the parent post is deleted? Still learning the ins and outs here)
Anyway, thanks to whoever responded to my #jetpack #wordpress question - I found the disconnect & disable controls. Any reason we should worry about #akismet for now or so we trust that they’re only checking comments? -
