  3. The 2026 ISER report on #akleg fiscal options CLEARLY outlines paths for saving 80% of #AKfams tons of money. To date, NO candidate for #AKgov has included those paths in their platform. Why? Probably b/c the paths would require contributions from the Top20%, #NonRez & #OilCos. alaskalandmine.com/landmines/b

  11. The @nytimes looks at Alaska, focusing on the state's fiscal situation. The interesting thing? While it notes that 17 people are running for #AKgov, it can't find one who is actually offering a comprehensive plan to deal with it. #akleg buff.ly/urvqAvA

  17. The annual #AKdeficit is ~$1.5 billion. Rep. Galvin's income tax would raise ~$300 - $350mil. The remainder would be raised thru continued PFD cuts. The combined impact is FAR more regressive than #AKgov Dunleavy's proposed sales tax. #akleg alaskalandmine.com/landmines/b

  18. #akleg & #akgov candidates cannot honestly both say they support a statutory (or even POMV 50/50) PFD and oppose taxes. The math doesn't work, ever, period. Those taking the position are dishonest with themselves and voters. buff.ly/aJYwWPx

  25. πŸ€” One takeaway from yesterday's HFIN hearings on the #AKGov's proposed fiscal plan is that many #akleg members, including several Rs, view their role as protecting government economics rather than #AKfam economics. The two are not necessarily aligned. buff.ly/zWLbSpd

  30. πŸ™„ Persily with his periodic misdirect on behalf of the Top20%, #NonRez & #OilCos. As much as he repeats it, the problem π™žπ™¨π™£'𝙩 the PFD. It's the state's failure to develop equitable & low-impact revs. That's the #AKgov's failure. It's also Persily's. #akleg buff.ly/3Po1WBB

  31. The folks trying to rollback elections in Alaska to the bad old days of closed primaries have turned in their petition books.

Sixty days for Division of Elections to certify and probably some arguing about invalid signatures but this will be a huge issue this year if it gets on the ballot.

I'd very much like to keep our current elections system in place. If we're going to make changes, they need to be forward looking, not a wholesale repeal. #akleg #akgov

  32. The folks trying to repeal Alaska's open primary, ranked choice voting system will be turning in their petition books soon. The signature count will be a big deal because they may not have what they need from every district.

If you mistakenly signed this petition, please help us and withdraw your name by tonight:

  33. @leahwrenn @patrace @spiraledu I was so happy find a signature booklet in favor of campaign finance disclosure and limits. Thanks to #LocalBusiness who allowed the table in their entry way and long time active citizen who offered us the opportunity to sign. #akgov #Juneau

  35. Found an archive of the Ted Stevens / Bill Allen tapes from the VECO scandal. To me Bill & Ben (Ted's son) always came across as the real criminals in all this. web.archive.org/web/2011070709 #akleg #akgov

  36. Hey Alaska friends, are you aware we have no contribution limits for state or local elections? When one wealthy donor can buy an election, we get politicians who only serve those few deep pocketed interests.

Please help our ragtag volunteer network to gather signatures and reinstate reasonable contribution limits in Alaska. Let's have a state government for the people.

More info and volunteer form here: campaignlimits.org

  37. Alaskans, I'm trying to get the temperature on campaign contribution limits. Does reinstating reasonable contribution limits feel like something we *must* get on the ballot this next year? Or does it feel more like a legislative fix will get us there eventually? #akleg #akgov adn.com/politics/2021/07/30/fe

    "Yes."

There, I just saved the State of Alaska a million dollars.

  39. @redrummy Yeah I am referring to the state leadership #akleg and #akgov who just can't seem to progress on anything important to us

  40. Meanwhile #AkGov conflicts of interest continue to rage here. #Alaska #akleg @spifffy #Landshit for the info, as always.

  41. It's been overdue so I suppose I should do an introduction! I'm Justin, a #fish biologist in Southeast #Alaska. I have lots of interests but really appreciate keeping up with local politics, especially #akleg and #akgov . There are also so many great #rstats folks that I've learned #dataviz from. I read much more than post but appreciate the conversation here!

  43. @AKroadweed i believe if we can address the oil tax credits AND get our fair share (dammit!) then we can address Ed and Housing.

Until we address the elephant on the Slope, nothing gets addressed. Not with the 75% required #akleg to force the #akgov to not be able to veto anything. (I may have fumbled that wording. See twitter convo with Sen Weilechowski twitter.com/senwielechowski/st
