  1. 😆 Oh no, the sky is falling! No Code is #dead because *gasp* someone bought #Airtable. 🚀 Clearly, #AI and VMs will replace every app, even though "persistent Linux VMs with HTTPS and SSH" sounds like a 90s hacker's dream. 🌈 Who needs simplicity when you have LLMs and buzzword soup?

  4. Airtable sold for over a billion dollar

I don't imagine they will keep this generous free plan for a very long time now..

  5. Bending Spoons is buying Airtable - which is very bad because BS is known for buying companies & squeezing them for profit. Gordon screams & wants a local first version.

Grist is an OSS alternative supported by European governments.

  6. My experience with Airtable support today (have to use it for a client)…

    1. Our plan costs $24. Saw we were billed $119.

    2. Sent a support request.

    3. Human replied and said they couldn’t help. Instead I had to talk to their support robot. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    4. Fine. Followed the link and talked to the support robot.

    5. I told the robot its human said it needed to give me a refund. And it did, without question. All $119 of it. Making this month free.

Take that, company who forces me to resolve my disputes with robots.

    😂😂😂

  7. So now I can see a list of every item for the current trip, grouped by status, sorted by category and name, or I can look at the Kanban board.

And next trip, I filter my link table by the new holiday, and add the relevant items from the main list.

It’s totally overkill, but it’s really helpful.
    #camping #holidays #AirTable

  8. I made an overkill: we’re going #camping, and I usually have a packing list on paper, that I make by looking at the lists from the previous #holidays. Except that items start by being grouped logically, but as you add to it, it quickly becomes chaos.

So this year I made a relational list in #AirTable: I have a table with every item, its category, notes, a table with every trip, and a link table that associates an item with a trip, and adds extra attributes like status (packed, to check.)

  11. I've loved the interface of Airtable, but privacy is a concern. At the same time I don't know of any spreadsheet services that treat rows as database records. It helps me to be able to connect tables, have the app/program track "last modified" information, etc.
On a related note, I can't get Proton Drive to insert a date formula at all.

  13. #Airtable, despite a significant drop in valuation, is launching #Superagent, its first standalone product. Superagent is an #AIagent designed to coordinate multiple specialised agents to complete #complextasks, offering high-quality, interactive outputs. techcrunch.com/2026/01/27/airt #tech #media #news

  14. I just noticed #Grist attachment is not so reliable as say #Airtable or #Nocodb. Pasting into a cell from a screenshot from the clipboard, for example, replaces any existing attachment. Plus, how come there's no indication how many attachments you have in the field for that record? #GetGrist

  15. @royal @grist #Grist #GetGrist is probably the most underrated low-code tool out there. Not #Airtable. Not #NoCoDB. Not #BaseRow. Etc.

  16. YEAR IN REVIEW: Tech

    - #Obsidian still winning, migrated data from #Airtable & replaced DataView w/ Bases
    - Embraced LSP use in #vim, a real 'dialup->broadband' moment
    - Leveled up Python typing to 'intermediate'
    - Switched some projects to `uv`
    - Year sucked, but I still got some OSS releases out & have a lotta partly-done work awaiting 2026.Q1 release
    - Some (slow) progress migrating homelab from #NixOS to #ArchLinux
    - Back on #USENET again, thanks increasingly-shitty streaming co's
