  1. If you have a Levoit Core 400s air purifier, you can flash it with ESPHome.

The guide says: To get to the microcontroller, it's necessary to open it from the bottom.
It's actually easier if you don't care too much about its aesthetics.

There is a gray ring at the top and black latches on the inside behind the gray ring. You can push these latches in by using 2 sharp & thin knives.

One knife to lift the ring and a second one to push in the latches. Parts of these latches will break! But don't worry, it will reassemble just fine.

If you take the bottom-up path, you will have to extend the internal cables. Otherwise, you won't be able to reconnect the PCB to the unit.

Please know, you will have to take the bottom-up path halfway, otherwise you cannot see the inside latches. You have to detach the upper part from the lower part.

What a dumb design choice by #Levoit!

    Great job on this, @tuct.

  11. CW: covid19, air purifiers, help/advice requested

Hey Fedi, I'm looking into portable air purifiers and I need some help. I've done some basic research, but there are an overwhelming amount of options available. I need something that is reasonably easy to carry in a suitcase or backpack, can handle the volume of your typical hotel room or small office/bedroom, and is effective against covid (so a HEPA filter with a MERV rating of 13 or higher). I'm imagining something that can be powered off of a USB-C port, but I'm open to suggestions for maximum flexibility. I'd also like something with a very simple interface since I'm blind, ideally physical buttons, but I can adapt to something more complex as long as it's not a touchscreen or capacitive controls.
Thanks for any help y'all can give :blobhaj_heart: 😷

  22. #covid #kids #airpurifiers
I have read that modern air purifiers are very effective at removing virus particles from the air, viruses like covid, flu and RSV. Cold weather is coming and your kids will be getting sick, and you will be getting sick because your kids are sick. If parents banded together and furnished every classroom in their child's school with an air purifier a lot of illness can be prevented. Fewer lost teaching moments. Fewer lost hours at work. My kids are grown, so you might say I have no dog in this fight. But it's a smart thing to do and I would have been all over making it happen when I had school age children. It's certainly worth a try.

  24. Also, in the case you're looking for #airpurifiers, I actually recommend Blueair 311, they're simple in function but very effective and quiet on the lowest setting. Super light to carry and can easily be moved around.

The Mila is more expensive, visually good looking, and has all the gizmos because it has an app. It's cool to see AQI in your area and the state of the room it's working in. We put ours in the basement (long story) bc air isn't so fresh, but clearly outdoor air seeps in.
