Why does every AI company push a $20/month subscription and bury the API?
Because they sell predictability, not compute. A $100 Claude sub can easily be worth $10,000 in tokens — yet metered billing is hidden. Subscribers also use far less than they think, and a fixed fee is psychologically simpler.

Same with AI ... Software vendors and AI model providers have been giving AI away for free to spur adoption by enterprises. Can you say “unmetered,” “complimentary,” or “included” scenarios.
Those “complimentary" subsidies are starting to disappear, as the AI industry transitions to Pay-Per-Use pricing models.
