I don't think #antiai folks are necessarily simpletons.
Though many of them are.
Some really smart folk are anti-Ai.
Even by the broad definition some #aiboosters are anti ai.
Leahy, Hinton, Tegmark.Short story long.
It's #Aianxiety, I know, I had it 4 years ago, when most folks were laughing at me, there even was a period where the derogatory term was #aiDoomer
No one sane these days is denying the danger presented by Ai.
On the other hand there is a whole bunch of folks who are anti Ai and are simpletons...
... But they would be simpletons on any subject -
Obviously, I don’t agree with this vision. AI should instead be collectivized to increase societal welfare.
“I remember when the Macintosh came out in 1984, with Macpaint that enabled me to alter digital images on a pixel by pixel level. Three years later, Photoshop was introduced. We are in the Macpaint era of AI. Humans will not be able to control AI if it reaches the Photoshop level before we are able to definitively control it.
Existing models are powerful tools that can do a lot of good. And a lot of the reason these models can hack so well is that so much software and so many websites and services were released with sloppy security. But we are in danger of being eliminated by our own inventions before pandemics or climate change have time to get its own chance.”

Oh, so AI is suddenly capable and not useless for any meaningful activity?
I was warning of threats posed by AI to...everything 2 years ago only to be called #Aidoomer both by #Aiboosters and wood folk #aisloppers

Here is the #theprimeagen making some predictions for the next 6-12 months now the true cost of processing #llm tokens is starting to be felt. I suspect he's going to be vindicated sooner than that. I'm no #aidoomer but I can also see people and companies treating them as a universal solve hammers and the consequences will eventually catch-up with them one way or another.

@mwl I'm not an #aidoomer , but I do care about #dataprivacy and #consent.

A proposition about the dangers of AI:
What if the greatest near-term dangers of AI are neither the #AlgorithmicBias so ably critiqued by social scientists nor the #AIDoomer scenarios proposed in the tech community, but the consequences of treating #LLMs as-if they already are super-intelligent advisors?
#AIhype might be wrong b/c it over-estimates chat bots, but it's dangerous because it could lead people to delegate analysis and decisions to #StochasticParrots.

@andrewstroehlein The essence of the #AIDoomer argument is that this phenomenon that saves us only has to fail once.
