"In late April, North Carolina Botanical Garden staff joined students and staff from the American Indian Center (AIC) at #UNC to celebrate the grand opening of the American Indian Cultural Garden on campus.
"Created through a partnership between the AIC and the Garden over several years, the American Indian Cultural Garden features culturally-important food crops and #NativePlants. It also contains hardscape features like a medicine wheel and ceremonial circle with a fire pit, where Native students will be able to gather.
"Located across the street from the AIC and wrapping around the #CarolinaCommunityGarden, the new garden serves as a space to celebrate American Indian cultures and Indigenous ecological knowledge, support American Indian students in adjusting to life on campus, and serve as a teaching tool for the greater community. All are welcome: it’s open to the public from dawn to dusk.
"Dan Stern, NCBG director of horticulture, served as the project manager for the construction of the American Indian Cultural Garden. Becca Wait, curator of our Allen Education Center landscapes, worked with AIC interns to create plans for planting, design, and maintenance."
