Over the last couple of months, I have read plenty of posts which explain why you shouldn’t use gen. AI in art. Often in an accusatory tone – it’s stealing from other artists, it’s bad for the environment and exploitative etc. Been there, done that. Today, I want to try a different angle, talking about why it is beneficial to NOT use gen. AI.

Auf Reddit las ich heute einen neuen Begriff für KI:
GI - das steht für "Gestohlene Intelligenz".
Ich finde den Ausdruck sehr treffend, wenn man sich mal anschaut, dass KI mit massig Material gefüttert wurde und wird, das eigentlich urheberrechtlich geschützt ist. -

Since ca. 2012, I have been on Deviantart, and I display 232 artworks there. But with all the AI "art" slop there, I feel rather uncomfortable. Do you know any ethical alternative with free options? With ethical I mean, free of gen. AI images? Is there still a safe space somewhere like that for traditional and digital artists?
I have several of my artworks on Pixelfed, but the display there only shows square images, not other sizes.

I sometimes feeling like a dying species -
I still work with traditional materials, like pencils, water color, acrylic color, fine liners. On paper.
I have never learned digital drawing and painting with a respective tablet or similar devices. The only thing I can do are preparatory drawings which I scan and then colorize with Photoshop.Given all the AI slop, I'm glad a few people still like to see traditional art.

got 873 (!) views and 15 favourites/likes.
The actor isn't that well known, as far as I can tell.Now I wonder if people on Deviantart gradually come around to appreciate traditional art (again), because there is a lot of AI slop over there.
