SCOTUS has punted on a case over whether AI-generated art can be copyrighted.
First, the US Copyright Office rejected a request to copyright an image generated by an AI algorithm, then the Copyright Office reviewed the decision and determined that the image doesn’t include “human authorship,” therefore it is disqualified from copyright protection, then SCOTUS punted.

В 2022 году случился «нейросетевой бум» – генеративные модели вроде Midjourney вышли из лабораторий и стали доступны широкому кругу людей. Уже несколько лет нейросети являются одной из самых популярных тем для обсуждения в арт-сообществе, вызывая волну споров, страхов и мифов. В этой статье я хочу разобраться во всем этом и разложить по полочкам – отделить мифы от реальности, обсудить популярные аргументы сторонников ИИ, например, сравнение с фотографией, обсудить возможность охраны промпта авторским правом, а также проанализировать ситуацию с обучением моделей и «добросовестным использованием». Я старалась углубиться в проблему и разобрать позиции всех сторон, чтобы статья вышла объективной насколько это возможно ^^

I googled "Byzantine portrait art" and found a lot of images generated by AI.
If you don't already know specific works of art, it's basically impossible to tell which ones are real and which ones are made by AI.
I'm assuming that those AI images are now also going to feed back into machine learning models.

I don't think AI is necessarily a bad thing, it can be used as a great tool to help out with the work flow.
With that said: I can't say I LOVE it when I see former clients, bands and filmmakers use AI to create posters and covers that got that 90's CGI-feel to it. I guess we just love "The Lawnmover Man" now?
