Excerpt: "Previous #Cyberattack Exposed Information of More Than 95,000 #Mainers
"The latest cybersecurity incident comes less than two years after a far more extensive breach involving #AholdDelhaize ’s American operations.
"According to the company’s June 26, 2025, public disclosure, #hackers gained unauthorized access to internal business systems in November 2024.
"The intrusion was detected on November 6, one day after the breach began.
"Investigators subsequently determined that an unauthorized third party had obtained files from an internal U.S. repository between November 5 and November 6, potentially exposing sensitive personal information.
"The compromised records included various combinations of names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license information, financial account details and health-related information.
"The types of information exposed varied by individual.
"The full extent of the incident did not become public until June 2025, when the company began notifying affected individuals.
"In its official breach notification filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, #AholdDelhaizeUSA Services reported that 2,242,521 people had been affected nationwide, including 95,463 Maine residents.
"The company offered affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian.
"The vast majority of those affected were current or former employees, according to previous reporting, although customer information was also compromised.
"The earlier incident disrupted Hannaford’s online services and other business operations, leaving customers dealing with many of the same inconveniences now confronting them.
"The latest incident has not been linked to the previous attack, and there is no public evidence that the two security problems originated from the same source.
"Nevertheless, the recurrence raises an important question: What did Ahold Delhaize change after its 2024 security failure, and why is the company once again confronting a #cybersecurity problem serious enough to disrupt grocery services across multiple states?
"Neither the company’s October 12 announcement nor its October 13 update provides a detailed accounting of the security improvements implemented following the earlier breach."
