A Haunting in Venice
2023
Teil.

I just watered the "A Haunting in Venice" Hercule Poirot movie.
I liked it, I enjoy "whodunit" stuff like Poirot and Sherlock Holmes.
Sure, it would've been nice if the characters would be mice, like in "The Great Mouse Detective", but this was really nice with humans, as well. 😁

The reasons I like A Haunting In Venice are like 80% Tina Fey, 10% period piece in Europe, and 10% everything else.

I keep making bad decisions. Encouraged by my enjoyment of the previous movie, I watched #AHauntingInVenice . Surprising choice to base on an almost unknown Christie book (and then hardly following it). I have grown to respect #KennethBranagh's ambition to "do his own thing". The way he uses classic haunted house motifs is effective. But it's all just too wordy, takes too long... it left me bored and unimpressed.

Ich habe mir Kenneth Branaghs neue Poirot-Verfilmung "#AHauntingInVenice" angesehen. Sie gefällt mir gut, nachdem mir die beiden Vorgänger und darunter vor allem "Death on the Nile" nicht gefallen hatten. Damit ist der Film ein Gewinn. 1/3

#AHauntingInVenice: A solid Gothic-flavoured murder mystery, with #KennethBranagh showing real understanding of why fear attracts us both in front of and behind the camera.

I have to admit, #AHauntingInVenice was a *much* better (+more chilling) sequel than I expected. Wished I'd caught it in the cinema now. Recommended.

Kenneth Branagh should not be allowed to direct films. He’s a *terrible* visual storyteller.
…and while I’m at it, he shouldn’t be allowed to play Poirot!
-
Old style cinema, fine acting, and a nice Agatha Christie's mystery, with a supernatural twist, what's not to love? The third Hercules Poirot by Kenneth Branagh delivers yet another very good addition to his personal account, both as actor and director.

Thoroughly enjoyed #AHauntingInVenice! I haven’t read #AgathaChristie in years, but now I want to pick up the book.
-
I am just psyched we have a third modern #Poirot movie.

#AHauntingInVenice could have been a good Poirot story (thought it's still weird for him to be there) or a good supernatural(-ish) horror-detective crossover. In trying to be both it falls hard.
Some nice cinematography, I liked the first half of how the story concluded, some nice one liners. Plenty of pluses but overall it's just not good. Definitely the worst of the Branagh Poirots. Ah well.
-
Just watched "A Haunting in Venice" and it is basically the "Now You See Me" of Hercule Poirot-films. Weird things happen for entertainment only and I was entertained.

A Haunting In Venice is the best of the Branagh Poirot films. Enjoyed it a lot, the cinematography in particular.

I hate to say this but A Haunting in Venice was underwehelming for me. It's a good story, well-shot, and ticked all the whodunnit boxes but I felt no magic in it despite the incredible cast.

I really enjoyed #AHauntingInVenice. Probably the best one in the series so far. They nailed the creepiness.
