    In 1996, Argentina approved genetically modified, herbicide-resistant soybeans paired with glyphosate-based herbicides, a policy adopted without independent research. In three decades pesticide use increased from 40m to 580m litres annually. Today 60% of Argentina’s cultivated land is sprayed, affecting 14 million people.

    In #Brazil, containers of #herbicides usually have a skull-and-crossbones ☠️ and underneath the word "VENENO", or "POISON" in English, printed on the label. There is a saying here 'o #veneno está na mesa' or 'the #poison is on the table', to reflect the generalised abuse of #agrotoxins in food production.
