The most optimal durum #wheat varieties for balancing high productivity and environmental stability are those exhibiting vigorous initial growth and early maturation, contradicting the traditional assumption that prolonged leaf greenness at the end of a season ensures better crop outcomes.

We are Mishpacha Farms. We believe the commercial food supply chain is fundamentally broken—designed for volume, not biological preservation.
Our identity is simple: Zero-synthetic agronomy. Identity-preserved heritage genetics. An unbroken 48-hour cold chain direct to the kitchen. We serve the Executive Chefs and Master Bakers who refuse to let their ingredients die in a commercial warehouse.

Stop subsidizing the warehouse and absorbing the hidden cost of prep waste. We just published the exact biological and financial data on distribution fatigue in the inaugural dispatch of The Agronomic Ledger.

#Irrigation’s next upgrade may be chemistry—not hardware. Loveland’s AQUA FORCE targets the root zone: IRF’s 2024 irrigated corn work showed ~+9 bu/acre on average. The bigger story is verification—yield per inch, pump hours, moisture curves

Anyone working in #agriculture knows how important #timing is, but did you know that plants have internal #rhythmic biological mechanisms that can influence the effectiveness of #agrochemical applications depending on the time of day?
Understanding these mechanisms and how to apply this knowledge in the field is still a challenge. Together with Carlos Hotta and Antony Dodd, we decided to present some ideas in this new article published in The New Phytologist Foundation—my first as first author. ✨
I’m very excited to share these ideas because they’re part of the topic of my doctoral thesis, which focuses on #plant sensitivity to #herbicides at different times of the day.
#Chronobiology is a relatively recent science, but its discoveries have already earned a Nobel Prize in 2017. Personally, I believe that studies in chronobiology applied to agriculture could lead to the emergence of a new scientific field: #chronoagronomy.
Chronoagronomy could focus on studying the effects of time in agriculture—understanding all temporal factors and how they affect production systems, from soil preparation and crop rotations to the final product price in the market—with the goal of optimizing outcomes through process synchronization and the application of #chronoculture or circadian agriculture.
#Agronomy has always relied on knowledge of temporal factors, but has never studied them systematically in all their dimensions. Understanding the role of #time might be the breakthrough we need to produce more, produce better, and avoid environmental disaster.

CW: Online event 12th June about "Soil health and EU competitiveness"
I received this invitation. (comments at the end)
------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,The first part of the 5th EUSO Stakeholders Forum will be an online event on 12th June, focussing on the topic "Soil health and EU competitiveness". During this event, case studies from the private sector will show how healthy soils can promote competitiveness in terms of the three pillars:
a) closing the innovation gap
b) decarbonisation and competitiveness
c) reducing excessive dependenciesThe event includes presentations from the biotechnology sector, agribusiness, banking-financial sector, remediation industry, start-ups, carbon farming, development of clean products and retail industry.
More information as Agenda, Speakers and Registration can be found in the page:
https://esdac.jrc.ec.europa.eu/euso/5th-euso-stakeholders-forum
Kind Regards,
Panos PANAGOS, PhD.Scientific/Research Officer
Project Leader of EU Soil Observatory (EUSO)-----------------------------------
My thoughts:
Ok, we need urgently more awareness about soils. We need more #OrganicAgriculture, #RegenerativeAgriculture, #AgroecologicalTransition, #CommunitySupportedAgriculture and much more. What we *definitely* don't need, is a meeting with NOT A SINGLE FARMER, but people from Syngenta, Bayer, Nestlé and a bunch of other industry representatives to allow them to show that they are trying soo hard to protect our environment while they do everything they can to sabotage meaningful policy changes. Venture capital funded Start-ups and old villains are definitely not the structural change the agrifood-system needs.Maybe it will still be an informative event, who knows.
Thank you for listening.

There's a lot to unpack here, including how we scientists think that we are smart but end up working on end-of-pipe-solutions that help temporarily to stabilize unsustainable systems.
This is a perfect example how academic knowledge does not lead to an understanding (or motivation) to address root causes.Naturally, the problem of this nutrient crisis is that in industrial farming systems the amount of animals is not anymore related to the available land. And this is because of policy decisions to commodify agriculture in an neoliberal industrual system.
Compare it with the thousands of scientists, NGOs and foundations that deploy there energy in hyperexpensive investigations for cancer cures, but only an infimal fraction of this is inverted in the field of prevention.
Or the promotion of high-tech carbon-capture bullshit instead of degrowth.
