Day 12 of Advent of Type brings Agon. It is a deliberately cryptic font (A to Z and /period only). The name derives from both a-gon, a polygon, and agon as in agony and agonist. There is a little puzzle in this image, it makes a message when decoded. At least, it is a puzzle as long as you don't open the font file which of course makes the A to Z mapping clear.

AOC prezentuje dwa nowe monitory dla graczy. Jeden z nich działa w dwóch trybach rozdzielczości
Marka AGON by AOC wprowadza na rynek dwa nowe monitory z serii AOC GAMING, skierowane do graczy o różnych potrzebach.
Pierwszy z nich to 27-calowy Q27G4SRU, oferujący bardzo wysoką częstotliwość odświeżania w popularnej rozdzielczości QHD. Drugi, 31,5-calowy U32G4U, wyróżnia się unikalną funkcją Dual Frame, pozwalającą przełączać się między trybami 4K 160 Hz a Full HD 320 Hz.
Model AOC GAMING Q27G4SRU to propozycja dla graczy e-sportowych i miłośników dynamicznych gier sieciowych. Został on oparty na 27-calowej, płaskiej matrycy typu Fast IPS o rozdzielczości 2560 x 1440 px i odświeżaniu aż 320 Hz. Taka kombinacja zapewnia ostry obraz, a jednocześnie nie wymaga od komputera ekstremalnej mocy obliczeniowej. Szybki czas reakcji (1 ms GtG) oraz wsparcie dla technologii G-SYNC Compatible i podświetlenia stroboskopowego (MBR) mają na celu zapewnienie maksymalnej płynności i ostrości obrazu w ruchu. Co istotne, dzięki funkcji MBR Sync, możliwe jest jednoczesne korzystanie z synchronizacji obrazu i redukcji smużenia.
Znacznie bardziej uniwersalnym monitorem jest AOC GAMING U32G4U. Jego 31,5-calowy panel Fast IPS również oferuje wysoką wydajność, ale dzięki funkcji Dual Frame pozwala użytkownikowi wybrać jeden z dwóch trybów pracy.
Tryb 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 px) z odświeżaniem 160 Hz jest ponoć idealny do gier dla jednego gracza, gdzie liczy się maksymalna szczegółowość i walory estetyczne, a także do pracy czy oglądania filmów. Natomiast tryb Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) z odświeżaniem 320 Hz jest przeznaczony do rywalizacji w szybkich grach e-sportowych, gdzie priorytetem jest płynność i jak najniższe opóźnienia. To nie jedyna taka konstrukcja, niedawno informowaliśmy o podobnym dwutrybowym monitorze Philipsa.
Philips Evnia 27M2N5901A to monitor 2 w 1. Zaoferuje 4K lub 320 Hz
Oba monitory wyposażono w bogaty zestaw złączy, w tym dwa porty HDMI 2.1, jeden DisplayPort 1.4 oraz hub z czterema portami USB. Ergonomiczne podstawy pozwalają na pełen zakres regulacji – zmianę wysokości, pochylenia, obrót oraz ustawienie ekranu w trybie portretowym (pivot). Urządzeniami można zarządzać zarówno z poziomu menu ekranowego, jak i za pomocą oprogramowania G-Menu w systemie operacyjnym.
Nowe monitory trafią do sprzedaży w drugiej połowie października. Sugerowana cena detaliczna modelu Q27G4SRU to 1356 zł, a U32G4U wyceniono na 1823 zł.

Ich hatte gestern Gelegenheit #Agon von @systemmatters zu spielen.
Die Mechanik ist simpel, und lässt sich in wenigen Minuten erläutern. Sie passt super zu dem Setting und unterstützt episches Erzählspielen. Wir hatten eine Menge Spaß damit uns auszudenken wie wir Dinge episch lösen oder eben episch scheitern. Es ist anders als traditionelles Rollenspiel, funktioniert aber prima, wenn man sich drauf einlässt.
Ich kann’s empfehlen, wenn man offen für andere Arten von #pnpde als DnD\DSA ist.

Bit of #retroComputing today, updating both sets of firmware on my #agon light 2, and also updating #bbcbasic
Now I can use a proper teletext style MODE 7, and I can run with 430k free - using the eZ80's ADL mode with 24 bit addressing.
What's more, VDU 7 now rings the bell, as it should. Actually a pathetic beep.

I've improved the #AgonLight implementation of Daniel Martin's #TRS-OS to make a more authentic #trs80 experience. The main thing I wanted to improve was the display capabilities. Steps taken (with thanks) to get the authentic output:
1. Obtain + fix the correct font
2. Load the font into #Agon
3. Modify the VDP to allow buffered fonts in Terminal mode
4. Modify the bootstrap and terminal host software to support the new code and use all 8 bits.
5. Check out before and after

I finally got around to ordering an #Agon Light. I don't have a 'dedicated' CP/M machine (although I could put CP/M 86 on the #PCXT 5160 or <shudders> run it on the #Commodore128). If I had more time / space / money / gumption, I'd love to play around with an #s100 system. The first computer I ever wrote software on was an S100 system running TurboDOS. Anyway, the YouTube videos make the Agon look like a clever little device, and it's pretty cheap.
