This is the way to "protect the children": hold the company accountable.
Not rules like #ChatControl or #AgeVerification that are easy to circumvent or just don't work.

I have a Masters student who needs an overview of currently available #AgeVerification technologies which are or might be used to enforce a #SocialMediaBan
And it would be an amazing bonus if there was some work on the specific technical challenges of going for 16 rather than 18 as the cut-off.

My issue with this is that there are waaay less invasive ways to do age restrictions, that gives parents way more control without exposing everybody and their IRL ID on the internet.

One of the major problems with trying to ensure #privacy and enforce the #gdpr is the lack of any meaningful action by the #ico. This will get worse when we are forced into more #ageverification systems and a #digitalidentity

I'm curious how the Mastodon/Fedi admins in California are thinking about SB 976. The law has a pretty broad description of an "Addictive Feed" but it seems like the linchpin component is that the feed be driven by information provided by the user.
It seems like a stretch for this to mean feed self-curation ("following" a user or hashtag feed)... but perhaps an uncharitable read might imply the Home feed is a violation of this law? It seems like a leap (to this non-lawyer) to claim that as "information provided by the user"
