Reading that tea (prepared camellia sinensis leaves) was in use in London in the mid 1600s.

And that scones appeared in documents from around 1550.

So when I read, "afternoon tea has been around longer than scones" I get doubtful.

Back home from a visit with our daughter to Bletchley Park where we had a bit of a mooch round parts of the museum, and we had afternoon tea in the Mansion.
Of course the highlight for me was operating GB3RS at the National Radio Centre ( as in my previous post).
I'd have loved to have had longer.
The afternoon tea is highly recommended.
