I had some unlucky timing in trying to migrate from #Adobe to #Affinity. They shut the store down pending a major announcement at the end of October, right after I started my trial. Well, a bit of relief: They re-enabled any trials that were started after September 20th, and bumped them to a full 30 days, so that will get me past the big news, whatever that is. Now I can keep working on my migration in the mean time.

Los cuatro o cinco últimos los he montado con #affinityPublisher y, oye, muy bien. Un software bastante comprensible, potente y de precio razonable.

Oh, btw I got #AffinityDesigner, #AffinityPhoto and #AffinityPublisher running on Fedora and they are working fine. But I didn't do anything serious with them yet. If they run fine in the long run, I will definitely switch to a Linux machine.

What's some (hacky) way to get some semi-scripted output for #AffinityPublisher? Its Merge capabilities seem rather early 90s, so not even simple IF conditions.

So if I were to design a #ttrpg spellbook, where there's an icon or color code indicating the magical tradition, I have to manually format 100+ sections?

I might need to take a closer look at either Typst, or my vows against Adobe…

The more I attempt to use #AffinityPublisher, the more convinced I am that no one involved in this product has ever actually done desktop publishing, or if they have, they'e never used Pagemaker, Quark XPress, or InDesign. The choices made in this app are baffling.

I've been thinking about #Software, specifically #Affinity apps #AffinityPhoto and #AffinityPublisher, and how they differ from #Photoshop and #InDesign most specifically.

The place it's most obvious is the treatment of Layers - Photoshop’s layering is a very direct recreation of the sort of cell stacks anyone who has done traditional animation would understand. Even things like Effects Layers and Masks, they're very of the physical. (1/3)

Bit the bullet and got the #Affinity suite. Mainly because that while I love the #FOSS tools I have been using since I cancelled my #adobe package, there is some functionality missing there that has made my work processes slower and more difficult.

Plus the black week price on the Affinty V2 universal Licence package was pretty damn good.

Any #Fedtips for someone who is a complete noob to Affinity, but who is pretty well versed in #Photoshop, #Krita, #Inkscape, #Illustrator etc?

Spending a little time tonight installing the Affinity V2 suite of apps. I'm very proud to say that I've de-Adobe'd myself. I've had a license for Affinity Photo for the last six years, so I'm not too sad about having to upgrade again (and, y'know, I don't really HAVE to). Five or six years between major paid upgrades sounds about right.
