When Captain Dubois remarked ten degrees of pitch, he was observing a correct instrument indication. But it didn’t tell him that the airplane was obeying the laws of aerodynamics, not the intuitive expectation that nose up means climbing. The plane shattered intact on the midnight-black granite of the Atlantic pointing up towards the sky.

17 years ago on June 1, 2009 flight AF447 disappeared off the coast of Brazil. This anniversary a week after the announcement of the conviction on appeal of Air France and Airbus. Having worked a lot on a personal basis on this tragedy, it is quite incomprehensible that the European Aeronautical Regulator (EASA) is not also among the defendants.

For those not familiar with #AF447, the 2009 A330 crash in the Atlantic was caused by weather, maintenance, training & #software. Ice plugged the pitot tubes. Autopilot shut off. A junior pilot pulled stick back to select optimal airspeed - except without airspeed data, control laws changed and he was holding the nose up to a stall. Captain tried to intervene.
