  1. @Heterokromia

"The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) originally agreed to back Husic’s resolution after other left-wing unions were pressured to withdraw their support."

Had a spouse who got shit support from the ACT AEU while they and the rest of the teachers and admin assistants were bullied.
If a union isn't militant then it's enabling.

  2. ☝️ This parent supports Thursday's Victorian teachers' strike, and calls on the Victorian government to stop being fucking clowns and;
    - Reduce class sizes
    - Pay Educational Support staff properly too, and
    - Actually fund it this time!! No-one's up for hearing "Whoops no cash" again, you dickheads

I hope something good comes of it. Public schools are horribly underfunded; and teachers in Victoria are the lowest paid in Australia.

The Victorian government is pretty cash-strapped, so it's not easy. But the pressure is required because the current status quo is unsustainable and inadequate. I'm sure we all have ideas for where the money could come from.

  4. @David

You've yet to have a bullying principal known across the territory's school system as The Teacher Eater, whose admin staff go home to cry every night, whose school is at the bottom of its national socio-economic band for test results, and who organises "visioning sessions" where teachers are required to list "What I love about this school" immediately before the annual department-mandated evaluation-by-teachers of their school?

All with the union sitting on its hands?

  5. the #AEU (Australian Education Union) really need to change their flag / colours – saw this when we rocked up & thought for a second that the fash was here 😳

(no sign of them so far 🎉)

  6. @angryeducationworkers

TAFE teachers at 12 TAFES stopwork Wednesday 21 August.

AEU negotiating for 2+years on ballooning workloads, in-class assessment recognised within teaching time. TAFE teachers are paid less than school teachers – by approximately. $4500 for experienced teachers.

Union members attend the meeting at the Atheneum Theatre Melbourne then march to Vic Parliament House

  7. I've had the most lovely final week at work. A special farewell lunch, gifts and speeches on Tuesday with my office colleagues, then on Wednesday the Federal Executive meeting voted to make me a life member of the #AEU. I don't get surprised often and I was a bit shocked! I get to go to the Federal Conference in February and give a speech to accept it. One day more - it will be a fairly quiet last day tomorrow.

  8. CW: Life update - new job leading charity

In early December I am really excited to be starting a new role as Executive Officer of the Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre.

CNLC is a community house and registered as a large #charity with revenue in excess of $1 million, with 25 staff and 60+ volunteers. CNLC delivers #CommunityDevelopment and #environmental programs, and a range of adult education courses. Its primary focus is working with people who experience disadvantage, in particular new #migrants and #refugees and people with #disability.

While I’m looking forward to returning to leading a charity and a #grassroots community organisation, I’m sad to leaving my role as Campaigns Officer at the Australian Education Union Federal Office after five years. The work of the #AEU is incredibly important - shaping the future of millions of Australian children and young people (and also adults in the case of #TAFE) over generations. #PublicEducation provides hope and opportunity that many might otherwise not have. Public education was incredibly important in shaping my life and I will remain a lifelong advocate for the work of the AEU and our sister unions globally.

PS: Charities don’t have much spare money, so I’ll be calling on people I know for favours. Thanks in advance 🙂!
