The insurance company (#Aetna) owns both the doctors, the drugstore (#CVS) and even one of the pharmaceutical companies making the drugs.

  5. Hahaha. Got the last laugh:

I keep getting spammy AI generated calls from #Aetna about my medications (which are as needed not daily). The bot always leaves the SAME message calling in from DIFFERENT phone numbers thinking I'm not taking my medications (bad RS!). It requires a callback whether I pick up or not. I can't block because of the random incoming phone numbers, and I don't want to call to tell them to stop.

Aetna doubled my premium for 2026 to $103.00.

I went with a different provider for a $0.00 premium.

    Queue maniacal laughing. 🤣

  7. #aetna sent us our denial of coverage notice for COVID vaccines today; $368/shot (so $1840 total out of pocket for the family). Fuck the American medical system and fuck the vaccine-denying lying assholes in the US government.

  9. Oh goody. Not only is the open enrollment period for ACA marketplace coverage shrinking by a month, not only are the enhanced subsidies expiring, my particular insurer, Aetna, is exiting the marketplace altogether.

I'm dead fucking serious here: if I cannot afford coverage and end up in medical debt again, I'm pulling a Luigi.

  11. tl;dr — If you're switching jobs or have had a "qualifying event", choose literally any #healthinsurance provide that isn't Aetna.

#Aetna has repeatedly denied my prior auth for a life-changing (and potentially life-saving) drug, one that had been covered for over a year on Anthem. Aetna's reason? I'm only eligible if I've previously had a #heartattack or #stroke — events that this drug would help prevent.

Let the cynicism of that sink in for a moment.

Essentially, Aetna demands that I give my condition a chance to kill me before they'll grudgingly agree to pay for the thing that could've helped me survive.

That isn't just greedy: it's wrong. And I will be sharing that observation and the rest of our interactions with the state insurance board.

  12. CW: Support local pharmacies.

Want to preserve true choice in your local pharmacy network? Is choice for you more than just Walgreens or CVS for your medication needs?

Support your locally-owned and operated pharmacy.

I'm a customer of Walpole Pharmacy in Walpole, MA: walpolepharmacy.com/

And, if I need a backup sourcing for something, I can visit Norwood Pharmacy: norwoodpharmacy.com/

You really don't need to shop at the box stores. Any products in the box stores that aren't bought at the pharmacist counter can be bought at your local independent grocery store or family-owned convenience store.

Stop giving the oligarchs total control over your healthcare.

  15. Lord, we don't need another #Aetna,
There are #Cigna and #Anthem to screw us, oh,
    There's #United, #Humana, way out of line,
They all should go, if you want to know

It's the only thing there's too little of, you see

  17. I am absolutely terrified of the security of my information with Aetna

They do not support any form of 2FA on their accounts

They do not let you copy/paste when changing/entering your password (so I can not use my password manager with a strong, random password)

That second one is officially idiotic because it may seem like it helps prevent automation, but virtualizing keystrokes is trivial. So it only harms people practicing good opsec

I genuinely fear that their internal security practices are equally flawed

  19. Hyperventilating and dizzy from furious typing after receiving an invitation to complete an Aetna satisfaction survey. There's probably no particular reason they want to gauge customer sentiment right now.

  21. Employers have greater insights into how #HealthInsurance companies acting as administrators manage employer-funded #health plans. Several businesses are using this information to support lawsuits alleging #CVS Health subsidiary #Aetna is not fulfilling its fiduciary responsibility under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 to control health benefit costs.
If you have #Aetna through your work, ask your company to join the lawsuit. #HealthcareReform

  22. A reminder that the US has a health industry, not a #Healthcare system.

Modern Healthcare: CVS Health Buys Medicare Advantage Broker Hella Health
CVS Health paid an undisclosed sum to acquire Hella Health, according to the Medicare Advantage brokerage's founder. Hella Health debuted in 2020 and claims to offer more than 3,000 Medicare plans from insurers such as CVS Health subsidiary #Aetna, #UnitedHealth Group subsidiary #UnitedHealthcare and Humana. 23. Background:

My wife had an accident this past Thanksgiving day (about three months ago) and hurt her shoulder. She can't raise her arm very high, experiences sharp pain, and that arm is noticeably colder. She wanted to tough it out, thinking everything will fix itself, but she finally went to an orthopedic doctor last week. That doctor can do x-rays and MRIs in-house. They performed an x-ray and determine that the bones were fine and the problem was likely related to the ligaments, but they wanted an MRI to be sure.

The provider had to get preauthorization from . Today, after radio silence from everyone, we called to find out what the holdup was. The doctor was waiting to hear back from Aetna. We called Aetna, and they claimed to have no record of the request. It turns out that they have outsourced this to a company called Healthcare. We called them. They claim that the authorization can take up to 15 days. For an MRI.

    They all suck.

  24. @aleen This happened in my family recently; the doctor had studies that clearly pointed to a certain moderately expensive intervention lowering risk of death, and the insurance company just decided they didn't want to cover it and rejected the doctor's appeal. #aetna

  25. CW: outrage about a newspaper story about healthcare when you have a rare disease

If you or I get a rare disease under #privatized #HealthCare, you or I will probably die.

Most of us simply don't have this lady's ability to work a bureaucracy.

I wish you could read this paywalled #WaPo piece about the evil, soulless fuckers at #Aetna.

Nationalize the shit out of these guys.

I try not to let this sort of thing get under my radar, but OOH!

  26. CW: US Health Insurance Saga (long)

    1. I change insurance at the new year (very little choice).

    2. I confirm a med is on the formulary.

    3. Doc prescribes the med.

    4. Nothing happens.

    5. I call insurance. They say it needs prior authorization.

    6. I communicate this to doc's office.

    7. Doc's office calls insurance. Insurance says it does not need prior authorization.

    8. Repeat step 4.

    9. Repeat step 5.

    10. Repeat step 6.

    11. Doc's office applies for prior authorization.

    12. Repeat step 4.

    13. I call insurance. They say authorization denied.

    14. Repeat step 6.

    15. Doc's office files appeal--can take 7-10 days or more.

It has at this point been over 2 weeks since the original prescription.

This is also not the first time (this month!) that the insurance has made false statements about my coverage to one of my doctors.

Need I say? #Aetna, recently purchased by, wait for it, #CVS.

Worst pharmacy is now a bad insurance company.
