A curious little thing is this #Crow. Or is it a #raven? I just cannot tell the difference.
It was perched on an electrical wire outside my balcony just now.
I might have to call on the worlds number one authority on ravens for an ID, as @Witchy_Minx will know for sure.
It’s topping 38° today in Melbourne so I guess there’s no surprise why this little fella is exhibiting this unusual behaviour. I thought maybe it was panting or the like, such as a dog.
But no, birds don’t pant they do something else as I’ve just discovered after a little research!
Birds do not have sweat glands, which offer the simplest way of cooling caused by evaporation.
By keeping their beaks open during high summer, birds let the hot air outside sweep over the wet mucus membranes of the mouth and throat.
It kinda works like and evaporative cooling!
Maybe like me, you’ve learnt something new on the first day of the year!!

The deep orange colour is appealing to the eye and the petals felt soft, firm and in their prime.
I just loved how the inner flowering section was a deep shade, whilst the outermost petals lightened in colour.

I think it speaks for itself… just look at that burst of colour and yes, to the touch the flowering parts were as soft as velvet.

I have only seen #sealavender preserve-dried… it lasts for years!
I’ve observed it in this blue / mauve colour; also pink and white.
Because it’s usually dried, the flowers are usually rough like that brown Ferrero Rocher chocolate-brown bonbon ‘cup’ packaging (you know the one? - that’s the best example I have 😄) so it was foreign to the touch when the flower heads were soft, but firm.
They are simply gorgeous.
