  1. Lettuce seedlings die as soon as I transfer them to net cups. Other plants don't, It's just the lettuces. Any advice? How to strengthen lettuces before transferring or support them right after that? I'm losing dozens for every surviving one.

  2. #Garden plans made, going into my raised beds: potatoes, parsnips, beetroot, celeriac, sweetcorn, tomatoes and Brussel sprouts. I was going to try courgettes in some pots due to space.

Also thinking of doing a #hydroponic experiment again this year, last year I tried #aeroponics but might try a hydroponic wall with lettuce etc.

  3. Could urban farming feed the world?
From back gardens to hi-tech #hydroponics, the future of food doesn’t have to be rural

Urban agriculture (UA) covers everything from hi-tech approaches such as vertical farming and soil-free processes such as #hydroponics, #aeroponics and #aquaponics, to guerrilla gardening on the urban fringe.

  4. What are those holes? Are those from pests?

No, it's expanded clay marks. Turns out that if you naively pack the expanded clay balls in a planting cup for #aquaponics #hydroponics or #aeroponics, the plant can suffocate and die. This is how it looks like when it happens. That's why my book recommended adding some coco fibers or other soft filler material to the cups. I ignored it.

  5. One of my recent projects has been creating a #solar powered #aeroponics (similar to #hydroponics) 3D printed vertical tower #garden.

It uses a popular modular #3dprinted tower design where water is pumped up a central column and allowed to cascade down over the roots of the growing plants.

Usually people attach their towers to mains but I wanted to make it solar powered and also report data back to my home #grafana dashboard.

Finally got round to documenting the progress - git.solarcene.community/smalls

  6. Adding to my #solarpunk bingo card, just had to service my #aeroponics system as noticed the pump wasn't activating.

Will write up the project soon

  7. Picking aphids off my lettuce starters with tweezers...

    Surprisingly satisfying

  8. Despite having a minor cold, I did actually manage to get one major task done over the weekend.

We've been slowly building out an indoor greenhouse. We added a raised bed yesterday and installed some hooks in the ceiling to mount grow lights. This bed will have 2 cherry tomato plants. We plan to add another raised bed right next to it later this month.

This is in addition to our aeroponics tower that's got Bibb lettuce, salad bowl lettuce, basil, arugula, onion and chives currently growing.

Our end goal is to have this entire room basically a leafy forest.

And yes, that's a 3d printed leafeon planter sitting in the dirt holding a succulent.

  9. 5/18 Aerogarden update

    1/2

My AeroGarden has been growing for about 2 months now, doing well after a few hiccups.

The Romaine lettuce pods are INSANE! They're soooooo full and delicious. They take a lot of water now they they're up and running but it's worth it to not have to throw away greens every time I have to buy them.

There's only 1 plug of bok choy doing well, probably won't get again. But some leaves are bigger than my hand!

  10. #aeroponics

Well we currently do not have a waterfall sculpture anywhere but waking up to this everyday seems plenty good enough for me !
