  1. @hansakwast I have two problems with #Aerialod
    1. It is not open source
    2. No change since ~1 year

Both points allown are no problem, but the combination is problematic. Perhaps its possible to do the same in @gmic I have to test it.

  2. Day 13, New tool
Today, I explored 0.0.2 for the first time, which allows overlaying a colour image on a model. The result? A stunning visualization of , the Netherlands with some fog effects.

: AHN4 0.5 m DSM and 8 cm aerial photograph, downloaded in via the PDOK Services plugin. Preprocessing done in QGIS.

  3. Turntable animation of the Isle of #Eigg. Done in #Qgis using a heightmap derived from OS OpenZoomStack contours, crown copyright and database right. This allowed me to get a much higher resolution DEM than OS OpenTerrain.

Rendered in #Blender, imported via #Aerialod PLY format. Applied a decimate and smooth remesh to remove terracing artifacts.

  4. #Blender animation - camera rotating around a point above Interlaken in Switzerland. Used #Qgis and #Aerialod to make the mesh.

Using my depth map/sobel filter hack, but not normalising this time - using a map range node instead.

This stops sudden jumps in brightness when the distance changes.

Can't believe this is under 1Mb in size for 270 frames

  5. Tidore and Tirnate, two volcanic islands in Indonesia. Done using #qgis, #aerialod and #blender. Data from SRTM.

Using "billboard" technique to show labels and a camera direction dial. This technique lets you make sure things always look aligned to the camera (or rather, a point very far behind the camera)

  6. Day 30: My favorite...

My favorite coffee bars in Copenhagen. All are cozy and have good coffee. Some are just conveniently near my office, but some also have truly exceptional coffee. I am getting a little obsessed with and finished this in :qgis: .

  7. Day 29: Population
Denmark's population density rendered in & finished in

  8. Day 24: black & white.
A digital elevation model (DEM) of Trudner Horn / Monte Corno Nature Park in Italy.

  9. Day 23 of the #30DayMapChallenge was #3D

Admittedly I'm trying to catch up a little bit (hence the spam of posts this weekend) so I used the same technique from day 16.

This is a 3D rendering of the seabed around the Falkland Isles and was produced using #Aerialod

  10. Day 16 of the #30DayMapChallenge was #Oceania

Initially I had planned to clip the original #Tif to the boundary of #NewZealand, and started doing that using #QGIS.

However, when I did a test render I thought the sea bed looked really cool, so I decided to keep the unclipped version.

These renderings make me feel inspired to explore animated renderings, but whether or not I can do that as part of the challenge will depend on time... and whether my laptop can handle heavy #blender usage 😅

  11. Day 16: Oceania
My favorite place in Oceania - Tutuila American Samoa - rendered in and finished in
I hope to visit again someday

  12. mixing terrain elevation and buildings using #qgis and #blender, using #aerialod to export to ply.

Trick is to render buildings/roads with low opacity, dark tones and additive blend mode so they sit just above the DEM

Got some moire artifacts tho 😕 Anyone know if QGIS print composer honours cubic oversampling settings from the canvas? The DEM's quite low res. Normally due to skewed pixels, but may lack of interpolation or anti-aliasing

OS OpenZoomStack, crown copyright and database rights.

  13. Experimental map using #aerialod and #qgis, using data copyright #openstreetmap contributors.

Pin heights represent house numbers in #Leith and NE #Edinburgh, from OSM "addr:housenumber" tag

Interesting to see Leith Walk and Easter Road numbers go in opposite directions 🤔

  14. Finally found some time to play with the beta, so here's my first attempt—a map showing median household income by county across the conterminous USA. Does it need to be 3D? No. Is it more fun in 3D? Most assuredly yes. 😋

  15. A building and street map of Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Sometimes I forget how fast GPU rendering can be.

Created with in and with data

  16. Did this a while back but never shared. A building and street map of Hiroshima, Japan, using @openstreetmap data, created in and .

  17. Here is a lazy version of the #30DayMapchallenge 2022 Days
    21: @KonturInc population.
24: Fantasy: I air brushed in #Wakanda (just watched #BlackPanther). Can you find it?
25: Two colors. I remember this redish sand tint from my last trip to #Accra, Ghana.

    Made w #Aerialod

  18. #30DayMapChallenge day 21 - Data: Kontur Population Dataset

I think these are by far the coolest maps I've made for this challenge (so far). I tried yet another new thing so after converting the data from a gpkg file to a tiff in #QGIS, I made these using #Aerialod.

I was born in Johannesburg, but my parents left South Africa when I was very small so I really wanted to explore it using this challenge. With that in mind I thought it would be cool to produce a 3D pop map of the area.

  19. Did you know that OSM data includes "building levels"?
Following my tutorial you can create a 3D-map with and and even emulate roofs!

    day 7: Raster.
