@savannahstennis is like to see these combined events commit to alternating the schedules for men’s and women’s finals every other year. This especially goes for the majors. Problems are really built around that imbalance which almost always rationalizes prioritizing men’s schedules. #Tennis #SchedulingParity #USTA #FFT #TennisAustralia #AELTC #WTA #ATP #ITF

#WimbledonPark at threat from development, despite being #MetropolitanOpenLand and protected by covenants signed in 1993 by Merton and #AELTC, who’re are the ones that now plan to build on it, because “times have changed” !

Little Egrets once hunted to extinction in Europe, now protected, are returning. The first one was seen at #WimbledonPark lake in 2019 and may breed. They can be seen perched up in old Crack Willow #trees that #AELTC plan to destroy. What a breath of fresh air that #MertonCouncil refused application 22/T3239 for Tree Work by #AELTC to remove trees from Wimbledon Park Golf Course - Metropolitan Open Land, saying there was lack of justification to do so and strong environmental reasons not to. While most of us were wishing family, friends, colleagues etc A Happy New Year @Wimbledon #AELTC were giving this message @wpgcgolf by closing off this Metropolitan Open Land to everyone for the foreseeable future, rather than letting the public enjoy #nature and benefit from open #GreenSpace.

The #Wimbledon #community Forum meets 19.15 on 30 November at Wimbledon Library. The future of #WimbledonPark on is on the agenda. The Forum is convened on behalf of #Merton Council to engage local people in local issues. #AELTC were invited to discuss their planning application to build a massive industrial tennis comp’ex on this #MetropolitanOpenLand (ie #GreenBelt) but turned down the invitation. #FriendsofWimbledonPark have today reminded #MertonCouncil officers of their promise to reseed the grass by the #WimbledonPark Road entrance, which was damaged by the #AELTC car parking and compounded by the funfair trucks for bonfire night.
We have also asked Merton to replace the tactile paving in the same area, which was also badly damaged by the trucks and is now moving around in the rain water, causing a trip hazard and impeding pushchairs, wheelchairs, mobility scooters etc.
