Anyone out there know what's up with #aegisub? It was abandoned for years, I was very happy to see development get picked up again last year sometime, but now the website just says "This deployment is temporarily paused". It's the tool I usually recommend for better subtitle editing, but it's hard to recommend something that's disappeared.

For today's #FreeSoftwareAdvent I'm going to build on @neil list of handy tools for putting together your own media library.
#Aegisub is a powerful editor for .srt, .sub, .ssa, etc. #subtitle files! If you have a video without embedded subtitles and a separate file for the subs, but they don't quite line up, this is for you. Tweak the timing, edit the contents, and see the results immediately on-screen. A life-saver if you import discs in languages you don't speak!

Had to do English #subtitles for an upcoming German video of mine. I know, you pirates absolutely know how to do your .srt files ;), for me it was a new experience.
I've chosen Aegisub for the task, after dropping the GTK+3 Subtitleeditor for being unintuitive like Outlook within 3 min.
In Aegisub on the other hand I felt immediately at home, and now, 90min later my 4min video has subs! \o/
Dunno if #Aegisub is state of the art in terms of open source subtitle editors, but again: I got the job done in no time using it.

Several years ago I switched from Jubler to #Aegisub to fix movie #subtitles. Yesterday I found there are free #lua automation scripts that add even more functionality to the app. Of course you can also write your own.
