Thinking about funeral planning? You can make everything personal and meaningful without excessive costs - including flowers.
A significant amount of money is often tied to "floral tributes", but DIY may be a better choice.

Death Literacy Barbie rides again!
Thank you ACAP Navitas in Sydney for a phenomenal four hours of engaged and curious, switched on Masters of Psychology class. Part of the life stages unit, I taught older adults, death literacy, meaning-making, advance planning, icebreaker conversation starters, and grief. We got through a LOT in four hours!
Big fun, cannot wait to come back.

Update on why advance planning is so incredibly important. It took a month to get our brother's body released for cremation because he had no planning in place. He was finally cremated earlier today.

Today is Dying to Know Day, and as I've done for the past several years I ran an information and education session free to the public.
Advance planning, comparative pricing and sharing personal experiences are some of my favourite parts of these events.
How did you spend your D2KD this year?.

Wondering why I recommend a dedicated bank account to pay for your funeral? Because some schemes shamelessly rip people off.
You can read some cautionary tales here https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-19/funeral-insurance-policy-plans-insuranceline-rort/102230678

I've been quiet and patchy on social media for a while now - partly because of ongoing long COVID - which I've been transparent about - but also because my mother's dementia is worsening. Which I haven't chosen to talk openly about until now.
Dementia is a horrible terminal disease, and although my mother's has been kind to us as she still recognises the people closest to her and that is somewhat comforting as her world gets smaller and smaller, it is still devestating.
I am my mother's responsible person for everything - do your advance planning everyone! - and although we are well-organised this is still incredibly difficult and exhausting. For anyone who has waited for me to return emails or phone calls this is the primary reason, and again I thank you for your patience with my erratic schedule.
I will be travelling back to the mainland this weekend, returning next week, to help settle my mum into full-time care. The admin alone is astonishing, as those of you who have undertaken this process understand, but the details of moving a life from a home into a care facility is wrenching and fraught.
Have a good weekend and I'll see you soon,
Annetta

March 20-26 is Advance Care Planning Week - and if you are interested in home-based end of life care then good advance planning can help you get there.
Former USA president Jimmy Carter has opted for home-based hospice support, and this can be the norm when we all have strong death literacy and thorough advance planning.
