#adolescencenetflixJe suis souvent très sceptique sur les prouesses techniques (plan séquence, drone, etc) si elles ne sont pas justifiées par le sujet du film.
J’ai abordé l’épisode 1 « adolescence » de Philip Barantini avec la même méfiance. 🧐
Et en fait là le plan séquence a vraiment un sens. Ne jamais couper la caméra, ça nous embarque dans cette arrestation et nous met dans l’état de tourbillon émotionnel que vivent les personnages devant le basculement d’un enfant et sa famille (entre vie ordinaire et propulsion dans une procédure pour meurtre).Là oui ! la cuisine du tournage m’intéresse :

Wow that was heavy! 😭
Each episode is a single shot, and feels “more real” than most drama filmmaking due to an almost bystander POV + documentary quality. The focused/restrained script also really makes this show unique. Impressive acting too!

While I like the topics #Manosphere and #Incels to be highlighted, what Adam tells his father in the second episode, gets mostly repeated and not much questioned, let alone does there seem to be anyone wanting to change that.
When the parents talk in episode four, they essentially say "when he got a computer, everything went wrong" and Eddie confesses that his only parenting technique was hardening Jamie with sports.

However, there was one thing, I felt was imperfect:
The last episode from the family's perspective makes sense as *an* episode an the line of episodes showing different perspectives, but is a little weak as the ending. I would have expected there to be a fifth episode with a court hearing, particularly to hear Jamie's reasons to plead guilty, but I think, this also was a deliberate choice because they wanted to focus on emotions

Owen Cooper did a fantastic acting job along the other actors who had to go through several emotions in these long scenes. And even though, it was just acting, the topic must have been tough for an actor that age.
But I think, it was a deliberate choice to let Jamie's character only appear in two of the four episodes on screen.
Also the situation of the parents is spine-chillingly portrayed.

It's notable that each episode mostly happens in one location and that location is either an actual real location or a cohesive set where you can go from one room to another. This allows for extremely long shots, almost one shots. Most scenes feel like only consisting of a master shot.
This makes this all feel more real and gives a sense of being there in the scene with the characters.
