Let's be clear on the background mess, before the personal attacks start, this is not about individuals. It is about patterns, systems and ideas.
The danger is that criticism becomes an #adHominem argument - “you just dislike this because…” - instead of looking at the actual structures being discussed.
The point I am making is that parts of dead #postmodern thinking have ended up fitting inside #neoliberal culture: fragmentation, individual identity, endless discourse and difficulty building any shared collective action.
That does not mean every idea, person or piece of work in those spaces is the same. It means we need to look at how ideas interact with power.
The question is - What helps us build collective capacity in a time of #climatechaos, inequality and the #dotcons mess?
What creates commons? What creates shared action? This is the conversation.

Accusing an opponent of an ad hominem fallacy simply because they used harsh language is itself a misunderstanding of logic. A person can be completely abusive while still maintaining a logically sound argument.

Maar activistische wetenschappers tegenover onafhankelijke wetenschappers plaatsen is een retorische truuk. Onafhankelijke wetenschap betekent dat je je bevindingen óók publiceert als die de gevestigde krachten niet goed uitkomen.
Als zoiets weggezet wordt als 'activistisch' is dat een #adhominem argument. Een drogreden waarbij de persoon wordt aangevallen omdat het kennelijk niet lukt om de inhoud te weerleggen.

Keitä oli vieraina, selviää ohjelmatiedosta. Itse olen alkanut vierastaa sellaistakin kehystämistä, koska se helposti ennakko-turhentaa mahdollista antia. Joskus tuntuu, että kiireisenä nykyaikana lähteet alkavat helposti painaa asiaa enemmän, positiivisesti tai negatiivisesti. Kyseessä on eräänlainen ad hominem -(virhe)päättely, jota voisi karttaa.

@erd Die schiefe Logik "Nur Richter/Politiker/Diskursteilnehmer, die selbst zu einer Gruppe gehören, dürfen ein Thema beurteilen" ist kurzsichtig und schadet sowohl den Themen, als auch der demokratischen Legitimation von Entscheidungsprozessen.
Im Übrigen ist es nicht Aufgabe des #BGH zu entscheiden, was schön wäre, sondern ob das Gesetz korrekt angewandt wurde.

3 internationale Beispiele, die für alle Frauen stehen, die täglich angegriffen werden. Beruflich wie auch privat.
Wir waren weltweit schon weiter, auch deshalb fallen wir politisch & gesellschaftlich zurück in die Vergangenheit.
Das Patriarchat fühlt sich bedroht.

De baron maakt een aantal #adhominem argumenten waarbij hij onderzoekers verdacht maakt omdat ze een mening over wolven zouden hebben. Maar onderzoek weerleggen moet je met inhoudelijke argumenten doen. 'Dit klopt niet want...'
Hij stelt zijn welles-nietes met de wetenschappers voor als Ajax-Feyenoord discussie. Maar zo werkt wetenschap niet; je kunt er niet zomaar 'eigen onderzoek' náást zetten - je moet falsificeren: laten zien wat er niet klopt.

Olen jo yli tunnin miettinyt, toottaanko tämän, kert se on vissiä periaatettani vastaan: #AdHominem.
Mutta kun sanoivat Ylen kahdeksan rariouutisissa, että "Suomea kokouksessa edustaa ulkomaankauppa- ja kehitysministeri #VilleTavio.", niin olin, et poor Finland. Samoin kävi yhdeksän rariouutisten aikaankin.
Kert #Tavio vaikuttaa musta varsin yksiinkertaiselta inehmolta, noin persukansanedustaja-tasollakin.

Listen, #bros - about #tech - about #TechBros.
The #Fediverse is filled to the brim with #besserwissers (or "better knowers"), #CallToAuthority, #AdHominem and other #LogicalFallacies.
I made it a point to just block these people, because at the end of the day they're not there to help, but to "shellac their roadster", to "wax their own board" so to speak.
If your idea is to deter others from learning or to be obnoxious: good job. If not? Check your attitude, check your behavior, be better.

You're also misdirecting and picking at straws.

One of the things I have seen over and over in video coming out of Gaza has been systemic targeting of civilians, health care workers, paramedics, hospitals, humanitarian aid workers, and civilian infrastructure by the IDF. These are all crimes under international law.
Yet the only fault they could find with this documentary is that one of the featured children is related to the Deputy Agriculture Minister. #AdHominem

"Dein Argument ist falsch, weil du komische Schuhe trägst. Klingt bescheuert? Ist es auch."
Beim #AdHominem-Fehlschluss wird nicht das Argument angegriffen, sondern die Person, die es vorbringt.
Beispiel:
🗣️ „Ich finde, wir sollten mehr Geld in Bildung investieren.“
🙅 „Was willst du denn darüber wissen? Du hast ja nicht mal studiert!“
Aber selbst wenn jemand keine Ausbildung hat, kann das Argument trotzdem gültig sein.👉 Tipp: Kritisiere die Idee, nicht den Menschen dahinter!

Just a random note:
"Ad Hominem" is a logical fallacy in which they dismiss the argument by addressing the person not the argument.
Ad Hominem is not calling the person a douchebag while addressing the points of the argument.
Ad Hominem is saying those points should be dismissed because they are a douchebag.
It's thrown around (improperly) often by people who want to basically say "you've lost the argument because you're angry" but what to add elitism on top of entitlement.
Easy test: if you can remove all the insults from the argument and it still makes sense, then it's not Ad Hominem.

Judging #research based on who sponsored it is an #Adhominem #logicalfallacy. Yet it seems like not judging it based on who sponsored it is a #fallacyfallacy .
Maybe the best would be to verify and test the ideas in research. But most of us aren't educated enough to even understand them.
How do we solve that without effecting people's #freedom ?

@kielkontrovers Ich weise auch darauf hin, dass du bezüglich #NormanFinkelstein ein #adhominem Argument benutzt hast. Mit der **inhaltlichen** Kritik an der #IHRA Defintion von #Antisemitismus setzt du dich hier nicht auseinander.
Und genau das ist meine Hauptkritik an der Debatte in Deutschland. #Dualismus

Tai totea, että Purra jättää itse vastaamatta niihin asioihin, joista #Andersson tässä yhteydessä häntä kritisoi.
