gonna have to thank Jaiden Animations because if it wasn't for her video on her experiences with ADHD, I would not have gotten myself checked and subsequently diagnosed. Her symptoms sounded really close to what I was dealing with.

Anyhow, just wanna let you guys know I finally got diagnosed with ADHD! I've been suspecting it for a good year or so and I believe I was asking around on fedi and Bluesky, but it feels nice to finally know what the hell was going on in my head and have it backed up by an NHS-approved provider. I am on medication, but I'm reluctant to talk about it (haven't even told Bluesky what I'm on) since I'm still early on it.

Bit of an update regarding my path to ADHD assessment:
I looked at possible ADHD symptoms I had in childhood, and it turns out I was able to pick out 6 to 7 out of 9 of the hyperactivity symptoms. Feels weird given that I feel very inattentive right now. It was unclear if the NHS wanted me to assess myself as an adult for childhood symptoms or do what I did. 🤷
GP gave me info on Right to Choose (he recommended it to me at first when I started preparing for ADHD assessment referral). I thought there'd be a form to fill in but no, it seems like you just send a letter to your GP.
I'm going by ADHD-UK's Right to Choose list. Harrow Health looks promising, but is there anything to look out for? Has anyone had better experience at another place than Harrow Health?

Fellow uk adhders, you should definitely apply for this if you think it'll help you!
[Edit: you don't need an official diagnosis to apply!]
I've also applied for coaching and mentioned it at the end too as the main thing I'd like the grant for
I'll update you all on my progress :artsits:

It can take years to get an assessment for ADHD as an adult in the UK.
YEARS.
This must change.
Please sign and pass on this petition asking the government to produce an adult ADHD strategy to:
- Lower the assessment wait time to 6 months; give pre-diagnosis support.
- Inform patients & public about adult ADHD & end discrimination.
- Support patient self-management.
(please boost if you can)
THANK YOU 🙏

The “right to choose” scheme is a big deal and can reduced your wait for an assessment on the NHS down from years to months.
A couple of places that can help:

Hi Mastodon, I’m UK based and about to start pursuing an adult ADHD assessment because… many reasons. I’m literally at the stage where my life is being impacted on several fronts and I’ve realised that this might be the reason for several persistent difficulties I’ve experienced. I’ve started writing down things, and am planning to go to my GP in the new year (terrified!) what do I need to know? Grateful for any advice specific to navigating this in a UK/NHS context #adhd #adhduk #adultadhd
