CW: Meds advice sought boosts appreciated
Hey 👋
Anyone with experience on venlafaxine?150mg for a month or so (started on 37.5 at start of June)
elodie struggling with feeling utterly empty and numb (probably better than the previous regime (bupropion and medikinet) which produced scary af mood swings…. 🤷♀️ idk)
She thinks she be adding AU to the DHD
Only 28c today
Have run out of coffee :Blobhaj_Sad_Reach: -
CW: psychiatry, medication, ADHD
I didn’t talk about it here but actually if anyone around me has some input it would be greatly appreciated :boosts_ok:
I have finally managed to get a review and discuss my ADHD treatment as I wanted to get some support for the emotional aspect of ADHD and because my treatment wasn’t as effective, thinking about trying guanfacine as a supplement to my stimulant, but they said that they do not prescribe guanfacine in that clinic lol (and probably it’s pretty rare under the NHS)
so they offered me to either try Methylphenidate instead of my current one (lisdexamfetamine/Elvanse) or to see my GP and add in back an antidepressant (as I felt better at the start of my stimulant, when I had an SSRI as well). But they didn’t give me much information as to how I should make that decision besides a leaflet about methylphenidate (which I still need to read lmao).Would anyone have any suggestions of how to consider going for Methylphenidate over Lisdexamfetamine please? I’m wondering if MPH wouldn’t be better for me since my sleep is heavily dysregulated atm and I wonder if Lisdex isn’t the cause (though it always has been an issue for me obviously) but idk.
I find that though Lisdex help mentally cope I am still overwhelmed and I find it difficult to keep up with doing tasks, motivation is lacking, and going up in dosage makes me go insane and super depressed. It really helps with energy levels and socialising though
-
Day 1 on #Elvanse, everything seems to be going OK. I've got more energy than usual and feel a lot more alert. Trying to sort out multi-stage tasks has been met with some success, today's planned project only defeated by a missing power supply. I've been keeping a diary of how I'm feeling and what I've been doing as well as how much I'm eating and drinking. I definitely feel very self-conscious, but so far no bad side-effects. This is good.

Morning!
I managed to sleep at normal people times (ish)!!
All it took was 10 days of no ADHD meds.
It's honestly not optimal, choosing between sleep and focus.

🚨 Breaking news: ADHD meds might make you trip over your own feet or steal a car! 🚗💥 But don't worry, this study is for "healthcare professionals" only—so the rest of us can blissfully ignore these apocalyptic side effects. 🙃

Great - looks like the medication supply issue that they said would be resolved by xmas only got worse. All brands and dose sizes of my medication are affected - only one that even had a next available date was APRIL! I'm completely screwed.

I really wanted to do stuff today. I wanted to write some stuff for people. I wanted to clean the apartment. I wanted to maybe even get a bit of light exercise in.
Instead, given that ADHD meds led me on a rabbit hole of computer stuff until 4:30 AM last night, I am too physically fatigued to do almost anything other than sit at the computer and try not to fall asleep again. I did use the time relatively productively, given that I set up some file synchronization and automated some backups, but fucking hell that was about five hours later than I intended to stay up.
Fellow ADHD brains: How the heck do you get yourself to stay somewhat consistent with bedtime? Is it just a matter of trying to get your hyperfocus to pause every once in a while or are there other strategies I could try?

Stopped taking my #ADHDmeds over the Christmas break because I didn't need them. I was fine, content even; I kept the house tidy, I attended to all the adulting required of me, I even went out and had some fun, did some knitting, wrote a little, did some drawing. No problem.
I'm back at work today and am useless because I haven't taken my #ADHDmeds in over 2 weeks.
My conclusion is that my #ADHD isn't actually a problem for my life so much as that #ADHD is a problem for when I have to engage in the #dystopia that is late #capitalism when I have to perform as a cog in its soul destroying machina rather than live as a human being. I have to take mind altering drugs to be able to deal with the mind numbing tedium that is earning a living via indentured servitude rather than doing whatever the heck it was that I was naturally born to do.

Me, two hours ago: I should get lunch.
Me, now: I still need lunch.
ADHD meds really do wonders for screwing with your appetite, huh? It seems like I'm decent about having breakfast, but once I take my meds I struggle to remember to eat.

Second night in a row of waking up after only six hours. I gave going to bed early and getting back to sleep a really good go this time, so at least I got lots of meditation time. Really hope this settles soon - the worst part of meds-induced sleep disruption is that after taking the meds again in the morning, I can't nap.

CW: Prescription drug use, Adhd, note to self
A journal entry
Trying to reduce my #Methylphenidate (#concerta/ #ritalin) intake as I have built up quite a tollerence to it, the other day I had to take 70mg of concerta and multiple doses of 10mg ritalin throughout the day, so I think like 120mg tottal?
Today I just took my concerta I could feel it were off like 3hrs later even though it supposed to last 12, but I didn't take anymore today,
And God fucking Damm I was a cranky bitch this arvo, like I was just so irritable.
I have talked to my doctor about it and he said its okay to take breaks of the medication and actually recommend to take break off it when I'm not working.
Thinking about no meth tommorow to see how I go
Also thinking about maybe talking to my doc about switching to #dexamphetamine since I'm so used to Methylphenidate now

this is what $410 looks like, with insurance!
I've been off my meds for 3 months waiting for the generic to come back in stock, but there's no end in sight for the #ADHDMeds shortage and not having my #ADHD managed has been literally ruining my life. so, I ponied up for the name brand. "thankfully" I'll be hitting my out-of-pocket maximum this year anyway due to my husband's surgery, MRIs, etc. so the cost will be a wash by the end of the year... but this is pretty obscene, don't you think?
-
I've never taken ADHD meds (and unlikely to ever get a prescription ::sigh:: ) but I just learned (from a random YouTube Scooby Doo video) that ADHD meds have very VERY bad interaction with antacid/indigestion medication.
Basically by changing your stomach acidity - the antacids/indigestion meds can drastically increase the release rate/potency of the ADHD meds.
So yeah. Be careful with what meds you ingest that have horrible counteractions !

As an adult with #ADHD it’s frustrating and disappointing that it’s nearly impossible to reliably get the medication I rely on to help function normally. It’s even more discouraging when the pharmacy can’t even give you a guess as to when it might be available again, and confirms that none of the others have it either. I know I’m not alone in dealing with this stuff - and it’s been an issue for months now - and that’s even more infuriating.

CW: ADHD Meds - personal experience update
So I’m roughly 3 hours into my first dose of Vynvanse and so far so good. Much like Adderall, I would describe the effects as: quiet. Everything feels a bit less chaotic in my mind.
If all goes well, I plan to take this medication irregularly and primarily for unstructured time like weekends and holidays.
I’m hoping that #vyvanse doesn’t come with the migraines that arrive in the aftermath of #Adderall.

CW: ADHD Meds & ADHD Evaluation
I been off and on ADHD meds for more than 20 years.
Ritalin made me alternate between zombie mode and intense aggression. Hard pass.
Adderall made my mind very quiet and focused. It was nice though I did miss the chaos and Hyperfocus of my ADHD. It ended up giving me migraines with prolonged use. I find it useful as an occasional remedy.
I’ve gone without medicine for more than 8 years and have relied on systems and processes, which has been the most effective treatment yet, for me. I’ve also really embraced the unique gifts of ADHD and I’m lucky to have the kind of situation where I can do that.
I recently sought out a new psychiatrist to get medication for difficult days or days with unstructured time (see: weekends and holidays). These are the days I struggle with the swirlies of ADHD and Autism clashing.
The process of getting diagnosed is HILARIOUSLY ironic. For an ADHD person to find a doctor, correspond regularly, fill out 76 forms, and make appointments is just pure comedy. It’s like the process is the evaluation.
Anywho, had my first appointment last night after the doctor chased me for two months and am likely to try Vyvanse next. He confirmed the ADHD diagnosis (no surprise) and indicated that the Autism, though difficult to diagnose later in life according to the DSM, also seems likely.
Oh and I found my favorite fidget toy yet in the doctors office. Monkey Noodles https://amzn.to/3YGy4DL
