Adania Shiblin pieni ja järisyttävä romaani Sivuseikka sijoittuu Palestiinaan. Kirjan ensimmäinen osa ajoittuu vuoteen 1948, kun Israelin sotilaat raiskaavat ja tappavat beduiinitytön. Vuosia myöhemmin palestiinalaisnainen lukee tapauksesta lehdestä ja kiinnostuu siitä, koska on syntynyt tasan 25 vuotta tytön kuoleman jälkeen. Hän päättää alkaa tutkia tapausta.
Varsinkin kirjan alkupuolisko on kammottava. Se on kuitenkin myös taidokas: Shibli luo hienosti intensiivistä tunnelmaa esimerkiksi kuvaamalla hajuja, kuumuutta ja sotilasjoukon johtajan toistuvia rutiineja. Toisessa osassa taas naisen arkisten toimien kautta lukijan silmien eteen avautuu palestiinalaisten elämä miehityksen alla ulkonaliikkumiskieltoineen, tarkastuspisteineen ja henkilökortteineen. Kaikkiaan kirja on väkevä ja vaikuttava, sellainen joka jättää jäljen. Mieleen jäävät sekä teema että Shiblin kirjallinen taituruus.
Kirjan on suomentanut Sampsa Peltonen.
