  1. Happy #AdaLovelaceDay! 🤗A day to celebrate #WomenInSTEM 🎉, named after ‘poetical scientist’ #AdaLovelace, who in the 1840s (!) envisioned machines that could compose music, draw & calculate, & who wrote what’s considered the first algorithm for a computing machine - 100 years before computers existed!💻

  2. "Babbage saw the analytical engine as a mathematical device. After all, it primarily stored and operated on numbers. But Lovelace recognized that a machine designed to crunch numbers could do much more if the numbers represented other things.

“Supposing, for instance, that the fundamental relations of pitched sounds in the science of harmony and of musical composition were susceptible of such expression and adaptations, the engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of complexity or extent.”"

    Happy Ada Lovelace Day!

  3. More people should realise how important #softwarefreedom is. I heard that #iPad don't have #calculator app. I was shocked.
Many people complaint about #bloatware when they bought new #androidphone.
These kind of things were everywhere—unfortunately, not many people realise this.

  6. Happy birthday, Ada Lovelace! Without you, we'd all be trekking to the archives instead of relaxing in our armchairs. 🍰💻 #genealogy #GenealogyResearch #adalovelaceday

  7. This Ada Lovelace Day I would like to highlight the work of Cynthia Solomon, because... well... her contribution to computer science has been "turtles all the way down." Read her page on the Logo programming language and its history here: logothings.github.io/logothing

  8. You can read my Hildegard von Bingen thread here but I’ve also made a longer blog post about her, botany, natural history and medicine in honour of Ada Lovelace Day! #ALD23 is an international day of blogging of #womenInSTEM.
