@drmorrisj compliance and controls are good things to have for sure, eventually we will see more open source and p2p ai with federated enclaves, indeed it is a bit too soon - the sw and hw really help push the product and we are still like 3 years out from smb mkt catching fire. i think right now there is a pretty big mkt for say legal and medical practices - they want better document management and embedding and inference; training models on their own data is big, also integrating more real time data (rag pipelines) is big - it can be used for etl, crm. devops, admin work,erp, osint and comp intel. #accountability #actuary

This isn't some wild claim and a #WAG of a number on the part of Alberta.

That number is what you get when you apply the #official #CPP #formula for a #province withdrawing from the plan. i.e., it's the correct amount.

It seems high because #Alberta's #contributions to CPP have been historically much higher than average (good jobs, low #unemployment), and their proceeds from it have been much lower than average (low average age).

It's realistic.

Time for another #introduction as I've just moved to a new server. I mainly boost and post about #climate and #sustainability, especially in the financial services sector - which should be serving society, rather than the other way round. I'm an #actuary by training, and have also worked in #software and #AI. Currently involved with the #Ecology Building Society - striving for a fair society in a sustainable world.

Okay so #introductions post for real now even though it's my second post here. I was never a twitter user so inline hashtags look awful to me, but I'll do my best.

My name's Kira (she/her), and I'm an #actuary by trade (i.e. risk management and mathematical modeling for insurance companies), and in my free time I write a lot of #fanfic. And I do mean a lot, on the order of 2*10^5 words/year. I'm at Flamesong on #AO3 as well.

I'm #trans, #lesbian, #Jewish, #autistic, and you can talk to me in English, #Spanish, #German, or #Hebrew and expect a nonzero amount of comprehension. I suppose you could also try Hungarian, but I was only in Budapest for one semester (math people can guess why) and my language skills at this point are less than epsilon.

In terms of other things I do and like, I've started doing #KravMaga this year, I go out bike riding during the handful of days of pleasant temperatures we get per year, and of course there are the omnipresent, dreaded video games. I like games that make you think in a math way like Satisfactory, games that make you think in a literary-analysis way like Dark Souls, and games that make you think in a strategy way like Civ6.

I see my character limit is starting to run a little low now (though using the smallest number that can be written as the sum of two cubes in two different ways is great), so I'll leave the intro post there. I can't wait to meet some new people here on Mastodon!

The wildest part is that it hasn’t happened already.

I’m a husband, father of 3 young children, and an #actuary by day.

I found #meditation in an effort to manage #anxiety, then explored various philosophical/#spiritual rabbit holes, all in the vicinity of #Buddhism (#Headspace , #ShinzenYoung , #RobertWright , #Zen #dharma study), though I stop short of calling myself a #Buddhist .

I’m in search of a community that shares a Buddhist-ish world-view to just chat and hang out here in the midst of 21st century western culture.

👋🏾I'm Toju from the UK and I lead a couple of #data teams at Zapier spanning #growth, revenue, finance, and customer support. Before this I was an #actuary for 10 years predicting death and convincing people to ditch #sas for #sql and #rstats.

Outside of work, I'm also a husband and a father to a 12 week old bundle of joy. So any #parenting tips are most welcome, particularly on how to return to work after 14 weeks of parental leave 😳
