[P] The choice for a modern kid is obvious. "A three-course meal for free? Or access to the slop lever for $80?" And why '06 as a cut-off? Thaf was the birthplace of ensloppificatoon. Devs play by the same rulebook today with only slight alterations. DLC, Mtx, preorder content, brolen console games that need patches from now-dead servers. Ensloppification began in '06 and only got worse. So, yes, easy choice.

[P] And being so few? They're *very* hard to find amidst the slop-factory of modern gamedev. Sfeam is a better bet than most, but even there it's a hunt. A hunt that takes time and energy. Or, one could go year-by-year on MobyGames, from the late '70s of UK home computers to the death knell of the sixth gen in '06. That's a lifetime's worth of games, and it's what modern devs are competing with, and failing.

[P] So when younger people learn about these older games? It's an introduction to a vast, diverse menu of three-course meals. If they use emulation and/or opt for abandinware, these meals are free! If they opt for PC gems from GOG, they can get a bucket of classics for a pittance. It isn't that there aren't any great games anymore. I've named some, prior. Omno, Little Gator Game, Neurodiver, but they're too few.

[P] And most devs prefer this, they provide access to the slop lever. Just look at how many soulless tidy-up games exist. I keep coming back to Edens Last Sunrise because it's a masterclass, it's a great complete experience, an intentionally finite, delicious, and nutritious three course meal. A tiny dev team did the best with what they had, and built a slop-free experience. But that kind of game is vanishingly rare.

[P] But BGIII was the closest thing to a completr experience in years, it was heralded. It had af least half of a meal from that three-course meal there, so they gobbled it down hungrily, even if the rest was utter slop. The issie with modern games is that devs—even indies—have locked themselves into incomplete experiences. And most now even believe that it's what they want to create. Fill the gap with slop.

[P] We need variety and complete experiences, this is especially true for neurodivergents. I remember seeing the reaction to BGIII and thinking "oh, you poor bastards." Only Act I was even half complete, and thanks to a last minute rewrite, the characters were one-dimensional yes-men and the narrative was a spaghetti-junction joke, with hundreds of threads that went nowhere. The second and third acts wrre ephemeral.

[P] If one puts an impoverished younger person in front of a three course meal, delicious, nutritious, and quite intentionally finite, then offer them an empty bowl and access to a lever for an infinite slop machine that pumps out infinite-yet-flavourless mulch, barely palatable gruel? Even the most impoverished teen would take the three-course meal. We all know, instinctively, that we can't live on slop.

[P] I've seen critics loosely ruminate on why Gen Alpha is obsessed with retro games from '06 and earlier. This one's been on my mind too, I think I have the answer. Astoundingly rare indie games aside (looking at you, Eden's Last Sunrise), how many games provide a complete experience? Almost none. Even most indies don't. This is the age of slop. I have a food analogy for this! Let's talk about actual slop.

…what reset me was doing a scavenge of new @RandomMovieTVQuotes…

…in a single 21 minute episode of a sitcom i was able to extract 9 new quotes...

…and also discovered i have to update 30 prior quotes since i wrote down the wrong last name for a bunch of characters

Genuine recovery for autistic burnout requires two things happening at once: 1) unlearning the old messaging and 2) building new ways of operating designed for an 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 nervous system, instead of borrowed from a world that wasn’t built for you.

Just throwing this out there for the folks who rightly want nothing to do with the new #HarryPotter that’s coming in December or really anything that #JKRowling has touched. “Dead End: Paranormal Park” on Netflix is a fantastic show, has multiple #trans main characters, multiple non-straight main characters, an #ActuallyAutistic main character who is actually portrayed well and not just as the target of every Autistic trope you can throw at them. They have a brilliantly done episode that shows the kind of harm that dead naming inflicts. It’s just really well written and well executed. The only thing that I dislike is that it got canceled before they got to finish the story. Anyway, go watch it, it’s pretty great.

I've decided that I need to reinstall my RPi 1 running NetBSD from scratch. the upgrade from NetBSD 11rcMumble to 11.0 got borked in the middle and while I'm sure it's simple to recover from, I've had a mental block on it for probably 6-8 weeks at this point because I'm unable to meet my basic needs such that my mind can function at anywhere near baseline capacity.

critically, that box was to take over the role of playing a loop of masking noise 24/7, and the machine that was formerly doing that is also down for reinstall and also blocked by incapacity.

however, the lack of masking noise is part of the cause of said incapacity, so I've got to get it going again.

I may get to it between tomorrow and Monday at some point. if it turns out there's a holdup, I need to fall back to a different machine to play my noise loop so I don't progressively lose more of my ability to function.

so it goes being #ActuallyAutistic without sufficient resources to meet basic needs.

The way I see it, sustainable recovery is just as much about unlearning ableist crap as it is about learning skills for a healthy Autistic life.

In my 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙩 course, I propose a holistic approach to addressing five major areas that I have found are essential for sustained burnout recovery. 1/2

Friday - the last gym day of the week - hurrah!

Not too bad a session although my heart rate went nuts on the bike!

A mostly quiet day although I did make some further inroads in the garage & even threw away a couple of things!

Friday night is pizza night & tonights ‘kebab feast’ went down very well!

Babylon 5 has reached the point where it compares very well with current events … the Centauri remind me of a certain country … low on moral values, high on genocide utterly engrossed in expansion at any cost, so long as it is not at their expense.

Final Thoughts.

I am going to have a massive audit of my new enlarged tool collection - there will have to be pruning!

Also the TWAM peeps have totally failed to get back to me about the tool donation I am trying to make. If they don’t respond soon then I will have to simply take them down to the tip - a move that I REALLY don’t want to make but we simply do not have the room for them!
