It’s strange. As a paramedic for 18 years I never felt the need to punish or assault a person who caused harm to another person*.
So I have difficulty understanding why the police should consider it permissible for them to.
Oh, I know why it’s because #ACAB

Why do so many deaths involving ACT police chases occur just after the pursuit was terminated?
Reality or creative record keeping?
I have witnessed a couple of ACT police pursuits leading to deaths and heard of many more.

Increasing criminal penalties is pointless. Criminals don’t do a cost analysis before or when committing an offence.
The AFP ACT Policing is actively hostile when victims report crimes or seek police assistance. The police are deliberately slow to respond, knowing that victims will tire of the delay and withdraw the complaint. The police also don’t consult with victims before unilaterally dropping investigations.
The problem is not the law, the problem is the misuse of police power and ‘discretion’.

I don’t equate my situation with those of vulnerable people, I am not at risk on a regular basis. My experience has given me an insight into the difficulties victims of violence face when trying to seek resolution.
The AFP ACT Policing has an unacceptable tolerance when it comes to male violence. I can appreciate women not reporting violence when the response might be “He’s a hard worker. We are going to let him bash you a few times.”*
Male violence is entrenched in the system and excused and enabled by male and female police officers.
(And the courts, but if the police don’t take matters to the court we cannot expect there to be any significant change.)
*yes, that is hyperbole, used for illustrative purposes.

Australian Federal Police ACT Policing excuse male violence.
I am fucking angry.
Last year I was assaulted. I provided the police a statement and video evidence showing the assault.
The Australian Federal Police are not proceeding with a prosecution because the person who assaulted me did it, and I quote, “whilst undertaking heavy labour intensive duties.”.
The AFP consider that claim may be “consistent with innocence”. So bear that in mind people. You may want to use that ‘defence’ sometime in the future.*
You may also have a better understanding why people don’t want to engage with or report crimes to the police and instead seek justice by other means.
I guess I will just have to accept that people who have labouring jobs can go around physically assaulting people without any real consequences.
