ABLEISM IN ACTIVISM WORKSHOP

How does ableism show up in your activism and solidarity networks? Who is included in your work and who is left out? How is ableism hurting you too? Together we’ll map our individual relationship to disability justice, and begin working toward co-struggling without leaving each other–or ourselves–behind.

This interactive workshop is facilitated by Crip Crap and organized by community organizers involved in mutual aid and disability justice in Utrecht. The event is part of a fundraiser supporting a disabled comrade who urgently needs a new wheelchair after being denied adequate care by the Dutch healthcare system.

Walk-ins welcome; sign-up encouraged Maximum 20 participants. Sliding-scale donation.

The workshop takes place on the ground floor/auditorium at BAK Basecamp and is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet. Seating will be available.

This is a Covid-cautious event: participants are asked to take a Covid self-test before attending in person; tests will be available on site. Masks are encouraged.

The workshop will be held in English. There will be no sign language interpretation. Access needs can be shared via the sign-up form.

In Apeldoorn en Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel hebben tientallen Franse en Duitse activisten maandagochtend vier slachthuizen bezet gehouden. Veertig aanhoudingen werden door de politie verricht. Leden van dierenrechtenbeweging 269 Libération Animale bezetten ook twee slachthuizen in Frankrijk.

Starting new things can be terrifying and the stereotype of the scary anarchist does not help, but anarchism is getting the power back that capitalism and the system took away from you. We are anarchists: we organize horizontally, take care of each other and the community, organize our own spaces. We don’t wait to be saved by a state or a leader, we save eachother and ourselves. We are already creating the society we crave so badly, we are already creating spaces where this freedom can be found.

Arkema : Pour une banderole, huit écologistes risquent la prison avec sursis

Le 11 février dernier, huit militants écologistes d'Extinction Rébellion et Youth for climate étaient jugés en appel pour s'être introduits dans le site d'Arkema à Pierre-Bénite en mars 2024. Alors qu'ils réclamaient, entre autres, l'application du principe de précaution, ils risquent quatre à six mois de prison avec sursis. Le jugement sera rendu le 15 mai prochain. Les collectifs craignent qu'il ne fasse jurisprudence et ne durcisse davantage la répression des militants écologistes.
