  1. Today I learned Apple dropped firewire support in OS 26 and Linux plans to drop it in 2029. I still have several miniDV cameras that are fun to record on. I guess I can continue with the old iBook I've been using to pull the video, but is till a bummer. The aesthetic isn't as strong as my Sony FD cameras, but recording in 4:3 is a fun challenge.

  8. Action Retro Demonstrates PS2 Linux
It's a weird bit of console gaming lore than Sony was so proud of the PS2's Cell processor that they actually officially ported Linux to it. All you had to do was buy the "Linux Kit," which contained two DVDs, a module that added monitor-capable video out and Ethernet ports, and a "gigantic" 40GB hard drive.

  9. Linux on the PS2.

The desktop defaults to the WindowMaker window manager. I think that's fitting since the design of the PS2 does have quite a NeXT-esque aesthetic, if you squint just right.
