  2. Seriously. And I always have trouble printing #IRS forms because of the weird stuff they do that only works with #acrobat

  4. #Acrobat #Reader ist gerade gestorben.
    Also für mich.

Vor zwei Wochen: Durchsuche #PDF nach Text. Kein Treffer. Gebe die Info weiter.

Heute Rückmeldung: "Kann doch nicht sein...blablabla"

Durchsuche PDF erneut nach Text. Kein Treffer.

Gesagt getan: #Okular runtergeladen. Datei geöffnet. Nach Text gesucht. Gefunden.

Also echt!

  5. A.A.A #AdobeAcrobat alternatives.

Hi Fedi friends! In the procrss of freeing myself from Adobe monopoly, I’m looking for alternatives to the softwares I use the most. The main gap I’m encountering is with #Acrobat.

I’ve tried #PDFgear and #PDFexpert but none of them have the option to create and edit forms - they only offer the option to fill them. A nice to have would also be the possibility to set a specific initial view.

Are you aware of any software doing so, out there?

  6. If you're using #Adobe #Acrobat you might want to check if your organization allows use of the by default enabled generative AI features: Acrobat sends the documents to cloud for processing, which likely goes against the data #privacypolicy of many orgs.

If unsure, go to Preferences > Generative AI and deselect "Enable generative AI features in Acrobat".

  7. #JustWondering Is there a reason, other than pre-digital printing workflows, for #Adobe to put so many, often fairly centrally important, parts of #Acrobat functionality into #Preflight?

I always find it most counterintuitive and disruptive, a kind of failed non-visual skeuomorphism. Why aren't these components just regular parts of preferences or normal menu items?

#Disclaimer I no longer use Acrobat myself.

  12. In related news, Peter Wyatt released Acrobat Custom File Info Panels. This free extension for Acrobat adds new panels to the XMP (eXtensible Metadata Platform) metadata shown when you view File > Properties in Acrobat Pro.

The new panels allow you to view additional conformance claims and dated revisions of standards now permitted in PDF specs, but not currently visible in the standard Acrobat panels.

  13. Last month saw the release of PDF/UA-2 (PDF for Universal Accessibility) and Well-Tagged PDF (WTPDF) standards - neither of which revokes PDF/UA-1. And those are all different from PDF 1.7 vs 2.0. To many, the landscape of PDF specs may now seem littered with confusing acronyms and versions!

For help disentangling it all, the @PDFassociation has a Questions and Answers about Tagged PDF:

  14. In amongst the release of PDF/UA-2 (PDF for Universal Accessibility) and the new Well-Tagged PDF (WTPDF) standard last month, some PDF professionals may have missed two other new resources that may help explain and view them:

  15. Why-oh-why?
