  1. Why do #bacterial species' #TransformationRates vary so dramatically? @epcrocha @labXC &co show that #Legionella & #Acinetobacter transformation rates evolve by sudden changes, likely caused by conflicts between #MGEs and the host bacterium #PLOSBiology plos.io/4dMviTR

  3. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR): a novel antibiotic Zosurabalpin (RG6006) shows promise in pre-clinical trials
Antibiotic resistance particularly by Gram-negative bacteria has nearly created a crisis like situation. The novel antibiotic Zosurabalpin (RG6006)...........

  5. we didn't end up covering this paper because we couldn't access it at the time ☝️

but we did talk about a related paper by Lu et al. published in ISME in 2022. Where they reported an increase in transformation of #acinetobacter baylyi when exposed to #antidepressants

Folks can hear us chat about it here: youtu.be/G5S9PM-1whE?t=690

  6. CW: Antidepressants increase transformation efficiency of bacteria

Duloxetine, sertraline, fluoxetine, + bupropion—but not escitalopram + agomelatine—increased the ability of #acinetobacter baylyi to uptake a plasmid in the lab. This effect is associated with membrane permeability and gene expression changes; scavenging reactive oxygen species (#ROS) and anaerobic conditions reduces effects. Drug persistence in bodies and the environment may increase #AMR

  7. Second try!
    #Science #Introduction
    Based in beautiful #Lyon #France we study #bacterial #pathogens

Our focus: the intracellular sneaky pathogen #Brucella abortus; and the multi-drug resistant (not so sneaky) #Acinetobacter baumannii.

We want to know how they interact with cells, how they hide inside and what they inject into them to make all this happen.

This is our lab account, an international, inclusive, fun team with #microbiology, #InfectionBiology and #biochemistry expertise

  8. While I'm very happy I made the decision to swap from #Pseudomonas to #Acinetobacter for my #Ecology and #experimentalEvolution study system and #research, trying to set everything up from scratch is such a pain.

Turns out you take a lot for granted when working on P. aeruginosa... So any advice or resources people have for studying #microbiology using A. baumannii would be much appreciated 🦠
