  1. At the absolute peak of their powers, Butthole Surfers made a live movie called Blind Eye Sees All (Touch and Go, 1985).

In my youth this was like a bible for me and my friends. We watched it over and over again on VHS. It must have been one of the very few copies in our state, Queensland in Australia (a right wing conservative nightmare in the 1970s and 80s). The singer Gibby Haynes became our teacher, who dearranged our minds with words. I had a (beautiful) dog called Gibby, a better friend nobody could ask for.

Here it is, direct from Austin Texas via the Sandoz Labs and in a brilliant display of psychedelic punk in Detroit Michigan in 1985.

The band is working two drum kits in tribal unison. King Coffey and
Teresa Taylor are fantastic. The light and projections are mind blowing (the dancing skeletons feature heavily). !00 Million People Dead is a drone and rhythm triumph. Paul Leary the guitarist is a genius. The use of samples and vocal effects by Gibby changes language and ultimatley thinking. The mock interview while the band lie in bed semi naked and seemingly high is a journey through deep and surreal caverns of wonderment.

    Enjoy
