Against the tyranny of the Apollonian
It’s one of those times when numerous disparate articles I read, written by people who I doubt are even aware of each other, seem to be swirling around a shared theme. The zeitgeist of the past few… -

"#AcidCorbynism is partly inspired by the late #MarkFisher’s unfinished book #AcidCommunism, later becoming immortalised as the topic of a discussion at Labour Party fringe conference #TheWorldTransformed. Now (2018) sections of the party are looking to develop the idea, discussing ways in which a Corbyn project can engender new forms of collective consciousness informed by countercultural projects of the past."

I like the concept of Acid Communism.
In these times it is important to focus not so much on being anti-capitalist, but to the emancipatory possibilities that lie in breaking free from it.
Similarly important is to recognise that the prevailing narrative of capitalism as good completely dominates all discourse.
One's chances at winning are greatly improved if one keeps focus on emancipatory potentials being lost & showing oneself how.

"#AcidCommunism is the name I have given to this spectre. The concept of acid communism is a provocation and a promise. It is a joke of sorts, but one with very serious purpose. It points to something that, at one point, seemed inevitable, but which now appears impossible: the convergence of class consciousness, socialist-feminist consciousness-raising and psychedelic consciousness, the fusion of new social movements with a communist project, an unprecedented aestheticisation of everyday life."

"#AcidCommunism became #MarkFisher’s term for a political sensibility shared by both the #psychedelic experimentalists of the #counterculture and by the political radicals of the 60s and 70s.
It sought to change and raise the #consciousness of singular people and the whole society, be that through the #creative use of psychedelic chemicals, aesthetic experiments in music and other arts, social and political revolution, or all of the above."

"When the cultural critic and theorist #MarkFisher took his own life on 13 January 2017 at the age of 48, he was delivering a lecture series titled #PostcapitalistDesire…
…is there really a #desire for something beyond #capitalism?”
How the cultural critic, four years after his death, became one of the most influential thinkers and writers of our times.

"#AcidCommunism is an evolution of thought, following from #MarkFisher’s work on the #hauntology of culture and #CapitalistRealism. To grasp what acid communism is, therefore, we need to understand these preceding ideas.
Hauntology is the belief that the future has been cancelled.
Capitalist realism is the belief that there is no alternative to #capitalism." -

"The overcoming of capital has to be fundamentally based on the simple insight that, far from being about “wealth creation”, capital necessarily and always blocks the production of #commonwealth.
The principal, though by no means the sole, agent involved in the exorcism of the spectre of a world which could be free is the project that has been called #neoliberalism."

The philosophers Armen Avanessian and Mark Fisher meet in Innsbruck at a Zirbelstuben-like venue to talk over Semmeln and coffee about smartphones, depression and the ambiguities of academic life.
