Wow, das war wieder so eine gransiose #traditional_irish_folk_session im #Valley_House wie vor einigen Tagen in den #Wicklows...
Angefangen mit 4 Musikern wurden es im Laufe des Abends wieder mehr als ein Dutzend.
Und da der Weg ins Bett nur eine Treppe weit war blieben wir auch entsprechend lange...

Dann ging es wieder zurück zum #Valley_House, da im dortigen #Pub für heute Abend eine #Irish_Folk_Session angekündigt wurde. Da wir aber noch Zeit hatten und schon ein paar mal dran vorbei gefahren sind, haben wir auf ein schnelles (alk-freies) Bier im kleinsten Pub von #Achill_Island angehalten, am #Lynotts_Pub
Kurz darauf registrierte der #Aixam die ersten #2000_Kilometer auf unserem #Roadtrip_durch_Irland mit #45_kmh

Dann kamen wir auch noch am #Kildavent_Castle vorbei, das als #Grace_O_Malleys_Tower bekannt geworden ist.
Grace O'Malley gilt als Heldin in Irlands Westen, war sowas wie eine Piratin und ihr Leben und Wirken ist Inhalt zahlreicher #Folk_Songs#Irland

Gefolgt vom #Viewpoint an der Küste bei #Cloaughmore
Hier gibt es auch einen #Gedenkstein mit der Inschrift "Eine Hommage an die Achill-Frauen, die mit Einsamkeit und Not in Abwesenheit ihrer Männer zu kämpfen hatten, die gezwungen waren, auszuwandern, um ihre Familien zu versorgen."

Der Ausblick vom Gipfel der #Minaun_Heights ist ein weiterer #Höhepunkt unseres Besuch auf #Achill_Island.
Eine enge Straße führte uns zu einen großen Parkplatz mit drei Funkmasten, ca. 1km vor dem Gipfel, von dem aus man den Strand von #Keel sieht. Im Westen ist der #Croaghaun, im Süden #Dooega, #Clare_Island und der #Atlantic_Drive und Richtung Osten erblickt man #Inishbiggle.
Ein fantastischer Rundblick über die Insel. GRANDIOS

Heute Morgen: Unser Blick aus dem #Frühstücksraum vom #Valley_House auf den #Aixam - der wird heute einige #Höhenmeter zu bewältigen haben... wir wollen auf den #Minaun_Heights einen 466 Meter hohen Berg an der mittleren Westküste von #Achill-Island
Hört sich vielleicht nicht so hoch an, wir beginnen aber auf Meeresniveau...

All this talk of the #solstice reminds me that there will be a total #Solar #Eclipse across Mexico, the eastern US and eastern Canada on April 8th 2024.
Ireland will be just at the edge of the shadow (44% coverage in #Achill Island, 15% in #Dublin).

A few years back, during our holiday on Achill Island, we decided to take a stroll on a beautiful evening. The warm air and clear sky set the perfect ambiance. As we walked, I noticed a sign that cautioned drivers about children playing in the area, while the Moon shone brilliantly in the evening sky.

Finbar Cafferkey from Achill, County Mayo died fighting in Ukraine. He had combat experience fighting with Kurdish militias against Islamic State in Rojava, Syria.
He had also volunteered on the border between Greece and Macedonia, assisting refugees landing in dinghies. 1/2

If you told me yesterday I'd be slightly sunburned today I wouldn't have believed you. Against all odds, the weather was fantastic today! We cycled the #GreatWesternGreenway from #Mulranney to #Achill and then out to Grace O'Malley's tower on the south of then island. We had initially planned to head across the island to #KeemBeach, but that would have added 3 hours to the cycle!
