The right of full account deletion, the right to name yourself what you will, I am Coleman Laing not Coleman_Lang7395, one's digital identity belongs to the individual who made their own account, what if one wishes to return one day, with their name?
When you create an account, the account keeps your username. "the account keeps your ****name." I hope for a day were account deletions are 100% usernames included, there has to be a better alternative.

Old platforms trap users in permanent accounts you can’t reset, reclaim, or rebuild. Facebook locks deleted accounts to your email forever. Reddit fossilizes usernames. Steam ties identity to old payment info. Modern identity systems use passkeys and hardware tokens so users aren’t trapped by past decisions. I’m posting here because I want identity that’s portable, recoverable, and not a lifelong sentence.

I can’t talk about Reddit on Reddit. I can’t talk about Facebook on Facebook. Both platforms block criticism, hide feedback channels, and trap users in permanent identities you can’t reset or reuse. I had an old Yahoo email account (it was @ymail, I thought that was neat). I think I made the account in 2008 or 2009. Back when I did not know any better, I primarily used Gmail, MSN, and Yahoo Mail, but Yahoo was always third on the priority list. I do not think I meaningfully used the Yahoo account since 2013 or 14. I was aware of the big Yahoo hack in 2016 or so, but never got around to deleting my account. Now that I am older and wiser (I pay for Posteo and SimpleLogin for my own email), I decided to delete my Yahoo account. When I tried this with AOL a year or so ago, it did not go well, but Yahoo made deleting my account surprisingly easy. I recommend using Just Delete Me as a guide to help you find and delete old and unused accounts that can become liabilities.

If you run a SaaS, please provide a simple #AccountDeletion process. It's basic courtesy.

If you don't, it also tells me the only way you have so many customers is by the implementation of dark patterns, and I want nothing to do with you.

Interesting. In may 2018 (so with GDPR in place) I requested an account deletion for my ClouDNS account.

Today I was checking all accounts tied to the mail address I used back then and went for password resets… Turns out they still have my account and simply suspended it.
