    And:

  9. "We're Off to See the Wizard" is one of the classic songs from the #AcademyAward-winning 1939 film #TheWizardOfOz. Composer #HaroldArlen described it, along with "#TheMerryOldLandOfOz" and "#DingDongTheWitchIsDead", as one of the "lemon drop" songs of the film. The lyrics are by #EYYipHarburg. The melody's first appearance begins with the #Munchkins reciting and #JudyGarland echoing "Follow the #YellowBrickRoad".

  10. "A #documentary about the #murder of five #Jews in a #Polish town is being threatened with a #ban in #Poland — not because they were killed in the #Holocaust, but because they weren’t.

The Jews at the heart of “Among Neighbors,” from #California-based #filmmaker #YoavPotash, died six months after the end of #Nazi #occupation. They were among a handful of survivors from #Gniewoszów, a town where about 1,500 Jews made up half the population before #WorldWarII. When they returned home in 1945, they were killed by their Polish neighbors.

Since premiering at the #Warsaw #Jewish #Film Festival in November 2024, “Among Neighbors” has been screened in six countries and qualified for #AcademyAward consideration. But its release on TVP, the Polish public broadcaster, has prompted uproar from right-wing politicians and a national investigation."

  12. I am intensely excited about the #Oscars news today, but I was curious how #Sinners was able to beat Titanic in number of #AcademyAward nominations.

Partly it's due to a new category added this year (Best Casting) which Titanic didn't have available back in 1998.

But Sinners didn't beat Titanic by only one nomination! Sinners has a total 16 to Titanic's 14, achieved mainly by a nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo!) in addition to Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku!), while Titanic only achieved a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Gloria Stuart as later-in-life Rose
