It seems time for my semi-annual reminder about how much money I make when scholars opt out of using citation managers.

Formatting reference lists is not my favorite thing to do, by far. But it is so very profitable -- and preventable!

Scholars often don't share that they use #editors. So many scholars think they're bad writers, because look at all those wonderfully written things they read.

Those well-written things were edited. Always. I'm editing something right now at an average of 35 edits/page

This is the 4th book by this scholar, well-established and awarded in their field. And this book needed to be edited into one of those wonderfully written things. #academicChatter #AcademicsOfMastodon #amediting #publishing

How the Higher Education Outrage Sausage is Made:

https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/how-the-higher-education-outrage

This is well worth reading, especially for understanding how legacy media end up playing into and amplifying the messages of what is a very well-financed grievance industry targeting higher education.

Faculty folk -- I'm rounding out my workshops so I have a full week of offerings. I'm two short. (I realize no one wants a full week but me...).

What do you wish you knew about publishing as a new faculty member? What do you wish you had learned in grad school about hidden curriculums and publishing? #AcademicsOfMastodon #AcademicChatter

I have a HUGE ask, #academicsofmastodon.

I'm prepping a workshop abt responding to peer reviews and I find myself in need of real world peer reviews/reader responses.

If any of you have a peer review you would be willing to share with me, I would greatly appreciate it. I would be delighted with one that represents your platonic ideal of a reader response, as well as a completely out of line response, or anything in between.

It's 2023. We're still studying for the #CandidacyExams and Theo is still attached to Keith.

Has anyone else had to change their scholarly habits because of aging? I cannot academic the way I once did. Wondering if it’s just me. @academicchatter #academicchatter #highered #academicsofmastodon

Alright
academics, got a question for you.
Would you deduct points for a student who uses they/them pronouns when referring to God?

Hi authors of Mastodon!

One of the things I enjoyed most on the bird site (RIP) was learning about others' new and forthcoming works or projects (books, articles, websites, collaborations, interventions, etc.).

If you have anything you've written or worked on lately, can you boost and reply? TIA!
