  2. Are you the less lucky of the co-first or co-last authors? @shougroup makes the case for changes to the way that equal contribution information is sent to indexing sites such as #PubMed. #AcademicJournals #publishing

  3. Do you enjoy contributing to #FOSS / #OpenSource and #academia? You could sign up to be a reviewer for the Journal of Open Source Software.

    :cyberheart_purple:

You might also help me personally :)

For any #Dart heads out there, my library is in the @joss review process. We need some more reviewers, and in general there are only a couple of Dart reviewers registered for the journal.

  6. A 2020 paper on using jade amulets to cure COVID has had quite some fallout.

Three years on, the first author sued his institution, Pittsburgh, because he said their response was discriminatory: retractionwatch.com/2023/08/11. He left the same year and has since founded his own institute for "paradigm shifts".

Five years on, this case and other problems led Clarivate to delist the journal, Elsevier's Science of the Total Environment, from the Web of Science. english.elpais.com/science-tec

I can think of several unsuccessful examples, like the PLoS petition and the Cost of Knowledge boycott.

Getting academics to make and stick to collective agreements is like herding cats.

  40. The US administration is coming for #ScientificJournals now.. I don't have access to the full article, and it's in French, but several journals have received a "questioning" mail from the Columbia district state attorney, and two journals have suspended submissions (Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) and the Journal of Health and Pollution (JHP)) citing federal funding cuts.

Next step: destroying published papers? We should all probably archive as much of the scientific literature as we can before it's too late..
