So far, my Monday morning has consisted of writing to the editors of a journal that they published a paper containing a drove of AI slop references, helping my much-appreciated instance admin to reject a signup request from a vibe scientist, and dealing with a breach of confidentiality at a major physics journal that smells a lot like the product of some AI assistant.

This must be these enormous AI -driven gains in productivity everyone is talking about.

I recently watched someone taking notes at an event on their laptop. In the bottom left hand corner was a pop-up chatGPT window. I leaned over and looked at the pop-up window. They turned and said to me, anything I hear that I don't know about, I just ask chatGPT. I smiled the smile of the death-wisher and said nothing. How can anyone who regards themselves as a tertiary level academic think this is an acceptable way of behaving?
