  3. Our wattle has been blooming for the past two weeks and especially in the past couple of days has been looking and smelling very nice. It’s really filled out since a year ago!

With tonight’s rain this will probably be the best it gets for a while!

  4. Are these tiny #insects the world's laziest bugs? phys.org/news/2024-11-tiny-ins

"They almost never leave their near-invisible miniature nests, built on #Acacia trees from silk they extrude from their bottom. No known predators bother with #Dunatothrips and their biggest threat is drying out in the heat if their nest is damaged. Pacifist vegetarians, they feed harmlessly on the plant surface, with no discernible effect on it. No bigger than the hyphen on your page, they belong to the #thrips"

  5. A huge #Acacia aka #wattle pre sunrise this morning.

How glorious is that full bloom? A sea of yellow, wow!

Cold last night, car was iced, a low of 1c (34F) but these, like many here in Melbs are hardy and resilient to frost.

  6. Can’t quite identify this #Acacia, known affectionately (tho not by allergy sufferers) as #wattle, here downunder.

My car was parked nearby this beauty and now sports a thin film of yellow pollen.

The bursts of bloom are lovely.

  7. The genus #Acacia belongs to the family Mimosaceae. There are some 1350 species of Acacia found throughout the world and close to 1000 of these are found in Australia.

Commonly known as #Wattle, Acacia is the largest genus of vascular plants in Australia.

Australia's national floral emblem is Acacia pycnantha, the Golden Wattle.

For those into botanic classifications, this one (pictured) is a #AcaciaPodalyriifolia
